Question for those who supercharged their SS

How much did it cost and what kit did you end up getting.
Also how does the car drive and have you had any issues or reliability worries.

And how’s the supercharger whine?

May want to move this question over to the "Forced Induction Discussions" forum

Let’s see hmmmm:
1.) Paid $2500 for 2022 ZL1 LT4 1.7 Easton Supercharger 500’miles on it.
2.) Conversion kit - West Michigan Automotive Technology - got a deal from member here who didn’t install it for $2000. It’s now $4000. ($1000 increase from $3000)
https://west-michigan-automotive-tec...s-kit-wet-sump
3.) Install, tune, and other parts. (Pulley) $2000

First dyno hit, 821/79. Heat was too high, backed it off to 750ish.
13.3 boost
4.) Got a great deal from a member here on a F1 Interchiller and two gallon expansion tank. $1150. Chiller still needs to be installed and dyno for higher numbers.

5.) edit: almost forgot. Fuel system. High side and low side fuel pumps. Injectors.
I grabbed a used high side fuel pump from a member here $500. Injectors were about $800. Low side no cost - 1LE came with low side.

6.) Roto fab big gulp $600, 103 TB Katech $750. Ported snout - did it myself.

Probably forgot something to list.

My car is very loud I can’t really hear a whine. It goes like a rocket ship, drivability is great. The tuner this time did a great job on the idle when I come to a stop. No complaints, best thing I did for the car deciding on going supercharged.

Not cheap, but tons of fun. I forged my engine last year and this past winter collected all the parts for the supercharger install. For reliability and safety I would recommend the minimum drop in pistons. The ring gap on the LT1 pistons is the Achilles heal for sure.

I have a Maggie 2300 running at 10 psi, long tube headers, forged internals, Jannetty's smooth idle cam with a +32% fuel lobe, LT4 fuel system, a JMS voltage booster plus miscellaneous bits and bobs. You don't wanna know how much it cost (the grand total is also my fault, because I had it done in stages rather than buy once, cry once, although it did feel like getting a new car with every upgrade).

For the money, though, it absolutely delivers. 730+ rwhp, top notch drivability both under low and high loads, no issues except an unfortunate original manufacturing defect in one of the heads that could not be foreseen. The infamous A8 trans is also near perfect in my car after Ted's tune. Overall I have a perfectly reliable and powerful Jekyll & Hyde vehicle that I'm planning to keep long term.

Little to no supercharger whine on mine, presumably because of a) the low boost level and 2) the lid on the 2300... but I wouldn't have it any other way, it sounds and behaves almost like a giant NA motor. The Hellcat whine reminds me of ball bearings near the end of their useful life, so I never really wanted it.

Yeah I bet it was a lot haha. I wasn’t going to upgrade internals though. I was thinking I would just upgrade the fuel system and be good to go.

Keep the boost modest (7-8 psi) and run at least an E blend (E40-E50) and the SBE will likely live a long time. Push the boost and rely on 91, and find out what happens lol…

Used a take off LT4 blower and car ran wonderfully for 7000+ miles - stocklike, but felt like double the acceleration.

It did have an engine malfunction, but the 190 mile an hour top end run likely had something to do with it...normally, I'd think it would run without issue otherwise.

Certainly recommend it.

Josh scares me.

Always doom and gloom when it comes to these things.

Makes me not want to do mine.

Sigh, awell time to save up for a 632 copo conversion then.

People always a little scared but look how many manufacturers make them… tens of thousands sold every year.

Long as it is install and tuned proper I don’t feel much to worry about.

Gotta be around 12k+ now a days with headers and all that added jazz that goes with it. Be nice to just super charge without headers or any other mods for a nice 75hp gain for say around half the price. I can't even use the power i have now let alone another 150hp. Loved the whine on my 99 and 03 Lightnings.

That number is a lil low if you go with forged internals, all new stuff, and correct set up

Yes and look at the changes GM made before slapping a blower on an LT1… forged pistons, lowered compression, bigger injectors, bigger HPFP, bigger in tank pump, etc…. So, if you want to supercharge an SS you can simply take some ideas from their book.

No doom and gloom. I ran my Whipple on SBE to 650 WHP with no issues. Kept the boost reasonable and ran an E blend. Simple! KingLT1 has been rocking that combo for years.

When I wanted to turn it up, I built the bottom end. No biggie.
