Manual to automatic swap . Is this hard to do?
Hi,
Anyone know if this has been done and what would it cost? Left leg and back pain is the reason for this . I hope to drive the car a ton more if I can get this done.

Many people have done it. Cost depends on exactly what you have done. I am assuming based on your comment about leg and back issues, you will be having it done by a shop.
6L80 swap from junk yard will be your easiest path, almost plug and play. Biggest expense will be the transmission and supporting parts. Total price for the swap really depends on how much the shop has to pay for the parts, assuming you don't go with all new parts. TH400 or 4L80e will be more involved and cost a bit more due to labor, but those are more for racing applications. I did the RPM 4L80e Stage 5, it comes with trans, shifter, convertor, flex plate, driveshaft, TCU, trans cooler and lines. Needed to add trans temp sending unit, dipstick and tube, deep trans pan. Install requires modification of trans tunnel. I opted for a better shifter for racing purposes. I had about $10K out the door. My advice is find a few local shops and get some estimates. |

TH400 swap is the cheapest and easiest to do out if the bunch but its more hardcore of the 3 thats commonly done.

Thanks everyone,
I would like to do a pro charger down the road but that’s about it. This is a daily driver style car. As of now I only have 12,600 miles on it and have wanted to sell it many times. With that said what is the best choice?

Mixed messages. Trans swap, procharger, sell it. At this point, you need to decide what you want and how much you want to spend.

Everything goes in stages for me.
Selling is due to not being able to drive comfortably, an automatic solves that. As far as mods go first an exhaust and a tune. If that’s not enough than the pro charger. I have a feeling I will probably stop at that point. As far as money goes 5k for the transmission swap and exhaust would make me happy I bought the car new it’s a fun car which I want to use more .

Over all your best bet is to sell it and buy one with an auto trans.

I think overall if I were to sell it I would only get 27-28 tops and it has never seen rain super clean.
It would cost more to buy a used automatic that someone beat the balls off. I have a local shop by me and the guy who owns it is a gen 5 Camaro owner. I wanted to get an idea what it would cost to do the swap using a used transmission with low miles on it.

IMHO, you will wish you never started the project. The guy doing the swap will run into problems and you will find it takes longer and cost more than quoted. Best bet is grab a auto gen 6 and enjoy .

Have a link or any info on swapping in a 6l80/90? I'm able to find plenty on installing a 4l80, th400, or removing the 6l, but not on installing one. Thanks! |
