mini road trip

I occasionally need to travel from Orange County (SoCal) to the Bay Area (NorCal) for work. Up until now, I've flown, as it's about a 6 hour drive (assuming no traffic) versus a 1 hour flight. But... Then I got my Camaro. Decided to drive this time. Except it's gonna take longer than 6 hours because I'm not into just droning along on the straight flat I-5 freeway... I wanted to take highway 33 heading north from Ojai to start the fun, but the road was closed for repair work, thanks to all the rain we've been getting here. So here's the revised route, the fun part at least.

Temps were anywhere from 35 degrees to 60 degrees, so I kept the top closed. Hoping for warmer weather on my return trip. And the roads were wet, so my car is filthy. But I did get some nice pics.

BTW, highway 58 between CA-33 and US-101 is a sublime two-lane ribbon of asphalt. Plenty of fast sweeping turns, elevation changes, and a few tight turns also. Here's a 3 minute section of video from my dashcam. I was happy to experience it while the hills were all green. Like most terrain in the southern part of the state, I'm assuming that they are brown most of the year. Enjoy the scenery. Looking forward to the return trip!

If it's above ~50°F and the sun is out, it's likely my top is down. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed them. Here's another little batch. I had some free time this afternoon, so I took a drive up Mt Hamilton Road to the Lick Observatory. It's about a 1 hr drive from San Jose each way. Gotta watch out for bicyclists, wet patches on the road, and little rockslides that spill out into the road. As long as you keep your wits about you, it's a super fun drive.

I did this drive about 2 years ago in a 5th gen Camaro SS (auto trans), and while that was fun, it was about 10X more fun this time. The 6th gen platform is so much more nimble and surefooted, it makes a world of difference on twisty mountain roads. Also going top-down and having a stick equipped with God's gift to us MT drivers - perfect rev matching - were huge upgrades.

In the second pic in the series, you can see the observatory (white speck) on the hill in the distance. The tree branch / twig is pointing it out. (Just ignore the road filth on my car. It'll get washed when I get it back home.) The 4th pic is looking down from the observatory at the road leading up the hill. I love to be able to look back and see what I was driving on!
