Gas tank blacked out?

Hey guys. So I've got this 2016 SS "pull me over red" vert and I'm looking at her in my driveway. But wait .... I see this "out of place" silver gas tank showing underneath.

Question: Can I coat the tank with a black rubberized coating? Would that be a "bad" thing in any way? It would match the black wheels .... so why not?

Have you done it? Any comments would be welcome.

On my 06 Trailblazer had the same issue with the muffler. I painted that with Black Grill paint and it looked ok.

What you are seeing is your muffler. Aka suitcase.

Assuming it is the muffler, clean it up and hit it with some good high temp header paint. It should paint up OK.

Paint it with spray rustoleum hi temp Matte or satin black when it's up on a lift. Takes all of 20 min, wipe the suitcase with alcohol first. I've done the rear undersides of my last four cars this way.

A couple times I've just given the spray can to the tech when he was changing oil or doing something, gave him $10 and told him to do it ......

This picture is a good frame of reference. The gas tank(s) are saddled over the driveshaft in front of the axle (black plastic).

Much as Glen e described I painted mine. It was easy. Total time was well under one hour - most of it in cleaning and taping off. The end result is well worth it. The muffler case is just not visible anymore.

Yep, painted mine black about 6 months ago, looks MUCH better now
