Question Trying to delete electronic steering

Ok so my car came factory with the electronic steering. I'm wanting to go back to the older style rack so I can have a manual rack. Will the old racks bolt up?

Before electric power assist there was hydraulic power assist, not manual.

Manual steering would require a low gear ratio to lower the steering effort. That does not exist in any steering system made in the last I don't know how many years. You would have to cobble something together from an antique.

I think the OP is meaning to convert to the power steering system that was on the 2010-2012 from the 2013-2015 electric system.

the link above is the best way to go about it. That's an $800 manual rack conversion. There would be no benefit for you to run a 10-12 setup, as steering effort is about the same as the electric power steering cars, and you cannot run a power steering rack without the pump and not expect to damage it

Typically the feel of the steering will be better with hydraulic steering.

Both are hydraulic...

One uses a mechanical pump driven off of the engine and one uses an electric pump. Both racks use fluid.

I see no advantage to this swap. only disadvantage.

EDIT: i may have misunderstood how this system works looking into it further. Maybe someone can clarify? I still see no advantage though.

If it is truly a mechanical rack you will have to turn the steering wheel about twice as far as you would with power steering. Instead of 3 turns lock-to-lock, there will be 6.

Otherwise it would be nearly impossible to steer. Mechanical steering vehicles also have larger steering wheels to help.
For drag racing, mechanical steering will free up a few HP. An electrical steering pump uses a few less HP than an hydraulic pump.

For street or road track use, the quicker steering provided with PS can be a life-saver.

Very good point Fred. I built my 66 mustang to handle. After i got it running i tried turning a corner with lots of oversteer. Damn thing Went sideways and because of the manual steering and wide front tires it was literally like the steering locked up. It became impossible to countersteer. Nearly slid off-road. Manual steering has no place on any car other then straight line Vehicles imo

Basically what I need to know is if the older racks will bolt up to the newer style system when its removed. I'm not going to run a pump. I just want the rack only. It will basically be manual steering.

Manual steering can be alright, if designed correctly. It just takes more turns of the wheel. A larger steering wheel will help, but I don't see that fitting a 5th gen.
Hopefully the rack referenced has a higher ratio than our 16.1:1 power steering, but they make no mention of what it is.

I drove a '69 Camaro that the owner had merely removed the belt from the PS. That thing was harder to turn than the '66 C30 work truck with manual steering I drove.

My brother had a '71 GTX and disconnected the vacuum line to the brakes. The cam he had didn't produce enough vacuum anyway. I told him a dozen times he needs the manual brake pedal as the fulcrum is different. That was a real nightmare. He wound up wrecking the Plymouth when someone pulled out in front of him.

My electrical steering dont work. So hard steering isn't bad. Car drives fine. My front tires are only 4.5in wide anyway.
