Cops don't care about this kind of theft. I once had bogus charges and thousands of dollars of scuba equipment shipped to a local address and I tracked it all down and called the police and made a report and they said they don't even bother unless it's a large amount of money. There is so much petty theft they don't even bother. My bank did reimburse me so the only one who was screwed was the seller who sold the equipment.

Always use paypal.

You will get your money back.

Force them into a secured transaction.

I bought a snow blower last year before winter from some Chinese place. I didn't trust them from the start, but I used PayPal knowing I could get my money back.

I got my money back, and never got the snow blower.

Ya, thing about paypal, is if the person has a paypal account it means they have a linked credit card, or bank account which is trackable by PayPal if you get scammed.

If the scammer tries to tell you they don't have a paypal account, guess what. Time to move on and not fall for it.

Anyone who asks for money in a personal basis is a potential scam waiting to happen.

Paypal allows that exchange to go through, secures your money if you do not receive services/products and provides a breadcrumb trail for Paypal.

Never buy anything from anyone without talking to them on the phone first before sending money. You can usually ask questions and catch them in lies, etc. and figure out it is a scam. NEVER buy with just texts, emails, etc. NEVER. l have followed this rule for decades and I have escaped some scams with this technique and, knock on wood, I have never been ripped off. With this fake seller's broken English, my bet is that it would have been easy to figure out it was a scam with a phone call, and if they refuse to talk on the phone, run.

I don't use Paypal and I sell lots of things. Paypal can enable a buyer to rip off a seller - the buyer makes a false claim and the seller gets screwed. I do not like Paypal and I never use it, to buy or sell. Paypal is great for a buyer, but it sucks for a seller. It is really hard to set up a transaction where neither party has risk.
