No ZL1 envy. I enjoy the SS 1LE. Not a daily driver and plan to track it next year

I had a '14 1LE and I only drag raced it. Never took it to a twisty track or an autocross. Now I have a Z/28 and I've raced it a bunch at our local autocrosses. Looking back, I wish I would have raced my 1LE at the autocross as well. IMO if you aren't ever going to track the car, you're wasting your time with a 1LE. It rides a bit harsher than a standard SS, and you're paying for stuff that you'll never even use. A regular SS with an auto will be a much nicer street car.

You know you can track any Camaro.....it doesn’t have to be a 1le or ZL1.
Track days are about fun and you would probably have as much fun or more fun tracking an old Miata cup car. (And save a ton of money) Buy what will serve you best driving it off the track first.

If you can afford the ZL1 then there is your car IMO. I LOVE my 1LE but I already know I will be buying a lightly used ZL1 next year after driving my friends. I do not daily drive mine so cant really comment on that part. If you never track it, who cares? You dont have to track it to own it......I might never track mine but still want the features.

<<If you are sure you'll never track it, get the regular SS.>>
<<IMO if you aren't ever going to track the car, you're wasting your time with a 1LE.>> Sorry, STRONGLY disagree. To the OP, you obviously are a performance oriented driver with that list of prior rides. I probably will never track my car, but I am thrilled that I got the 1LE. If you truly are a performance car guy that appreciates a great handling car for aggressive street cornering, get the 1LE, because IMHO, you will always be wondering, and you'll regret not getting it.

There's just so much value in the 1LE package that I think it's the way to go whether or not you're tracking it.
I haven't driven a ZL1, but I may be almost as jealous of its interior as I am of its engine. |

Love the ZL1 and considered one to replace my 5th Gen Z/28 but decided on the 2SS/1LE I have now. No envy here - this 1LE will do EVERYTHING you want on the street and still be a monster at the track for the average driver.
Of course the ZL1 has WAY more power - but how much of it can you actually use on the street and if you aren't going to track either car, why spend another $15-20K? NOTE: The auto trans in the ZL1 is a model only feature vs the 1LE so if that is important to you, then the ZL1 is the answer regardless. Up to you and I'm definitely not knocking the ZL1. It's sick. But for what it sounds like you want and how you will use, the SS/1LE will exceed those expectations in spades.

Not only is the 1LE a performance upgrade, but you also get the cosmetic bits that make the 1LE stand out visually. If you think there's the slightest possibility of buyer's remorse later, go with the 1LE.

I agree the 1LE is a deal for what you get. It's a long list of stuff and the car looks way better vs the std SS as well. Even if track use isn't in the cards the mag ride, HUD, dual-mode exhaust and Recaro seats are really nice.
Downsides are a bit more money to replace tires and brakes, the rear diff and shocks cost more too. I don't think this is as significant as it used to be though, big tires and brakes are a lot more common and cost a lot less than they used to. |

I appreciate all the feedback and agree with most of what everyone has stated. Can I buy one of you local guys lunch or a beer sometime in the near future in exchange for a test drive?? Maybe for once I should actual drive the car I'm considering before I make the purchase? Exit 75 off the Turnpike... Any takers?

I've been dd'ing my 1LE for the last 10k miles/8 months and no ragrets here. I tracked it once so far, and plan to do so again, but at 1-2 events per year, it probably isnt "worth it" and doesn't make "sense" for me to have bought a 1LE. That being said... I would make the same decision again even if I couldn't track it at all. I really enjoy the added bits from the 1LE package (even if I am not using them to their full potential) and the added rarity/specialty. But if you ever do decide to track it... its quite the bargain to have the same car comfortably drive you around daily, then if you decide you track it on a whim, just swap some fluids and have one heck of a track capable car while maintaining warranty.
