SS 1LE owners.. if you never plan on tracking
Hey boys and girls. First post. Deciding on a 2019 SS or SS 1LE. I’m still torn between which transmission so don’t let that be the deciding factor. If I’m being honest with myself I most likely will never track the car. I live in south Fl and have homestead and Palm beach raceway nearby so maybe I change my mind. My question is to other 1E owners. Which car would you choose if strictly a daily driver. Also, while I have you . Any SS 1LE owners have ZL1 envy? I’m still considering the zL1 as well but it just seems like to much car to enjoy on the roads?

Greetings. Never daily drove any F Body. No envy. Prefer manual in his setup. Note my Firehawk had the 1LE setup and I added 1LE stuff to my 97 too. Drive both? Up to you though wish the best whatever you choose.

If a ZL1 is in your budget, that's my vote. Of course I'm biased.

If you're thinking of a ZL1, get it now, otherwise you will be trading up in a year!

Hi there, I recently aquired my fist camaro, a 19 SS 1LE at that. I purchased it to be my daily driver. This is my first high performance car besides owning a 69 Chevelle in my late teens through early 20’s but it is nothing compared to the ‘19 SS 1LE by any means.
It is a pretty easy going car to drive. Even in stop and go traffic it is fine. I have yet to test its full potential though, but as a daily it is enjoyable. I am satasfied I picked up the 1LE package. As far as tracking goes.... one day I will try it out, but that most likly will be further on down the road. I have never tracked a car before. If I had a chance to redo my purchase SS or SS 1LE... it would def be the 1LE |

I have never tracked any of my previous cars and it's not something I look at doing when I purchase a car, having said that, this might be the first car I actually take to the track since GM warranties it.
Maybe I am a poser, but I love buying the track or "special" version of a sports car. I did it with the Corvette in the Z06, with BMW with the M3, with Audi in the TTRS. I just find them more special to drive. Even as a daily driver, I don't buy cars to go from point A to point B, I buy cars that makes you feel a certain way every time you get in them and how they perform on the back roads and mountains. I have had many, many cars in my life with only some of them listed in my sig. My top 3 thus far have been the C5 Z06, Audi TTRS, and my current SS 1LE. While I do not have ZL1 envy, I DO have ZL1 1LE envy and especially Porsche GT3 RS envy.

Modern high performance cars are pretty good as every day drivers. In the old days, hard suspensions, stiff clutches or hard shifting automatics, little sound insulation, and heavy steering made high performance cars feel like a truck in everyday driving. Today’s technology and refinements have made high performance livable everyday.

if its a daily what would be wrong with the V61LE? possibly would be rarer in that configuration than the V81LE if that matters to you.

I track my SS 1LE but not super seriously, just HPDE days here and there. I had an A8 1SS and didn't like the auto so I upgraded to an SS 1LE mainly because I wanted a manual, and I figured, if I'm gonna really enjoy this car may as well get the 1LE package. I would highly encourage you to get the manual transmission if you are interested in an engaging and responsive driving experience. Don't get me wrong the A8 in track mode works really well and does exactly what its supposed to. I just wanted to be more personally engaged with the car and I didn't like the A8 constantly holding low RPMs in daily driving.
So here it is: Beginner? Looking for a fun way to get started with performance cars and not spend too much money? Want a really fun daily driver that you can actually afford, and even take to the track? Go for a V6 or turbo 1LE. In some ways I wish I did this first! You know you are into performance and can handle the power of the LT1, and can afford the increased costs of an SS? Go for it. The standard SS is more of a "muscle car" and the 1LE is much more track oriented. If you are sure you'll never track it, get the regular SS. If you think there's a chance though, go for the 1LE. Very experienced driver and want to run in the advanced group on the track, and have tons of disposable income? Get the ZL1. Otherwise its completely overkill. |

I'm not putting down RS owners, but get in an SS on a cold morning. Crank it up. Then do the same thing with an RS. That alone is worth the extra $, not to mention an additional ~110 hp.

Yea I can't believe you've never been to the track. Nows the time! And an SS 1LE would likely be your ticket.
