My Car Just Hit At Ballgame Tonight

I had just finished watching my boy play basketball and waiting to watch the girls game, when one of my friends came over to me saying someone just hit my car. I just knew he was kidding around, but he insisted he wasn't. My friend hadn't even seen it. He said someone came in the school saying someone just hit a really nice blue car, so he instantly came and got me. I was really hoping they had hit someone else, but after walking outside and seeing a van in front of it with their emergency lights flashing, I knew it wasn't good.

The bad part was the mix of emotions. I was mad, but the lady that hit it was balling her eyes out before I even got outside. She barely could speak as she tried to apologize. To add to it, we see her and her husband at school pickup all the time.

My wife thought my friend was joking too, so she never got up when I did. After realizing I had been gone a little while, she sent our boy out to check. He came back in and told her the cops were out there, so she knew it wasn't good. When she saw the car, she asked pretty angrily, who hit it. Then she was hit with the same emotions I was going through when the husband of the lady said his wife did.

Over an hour later, we are still feeling all these mixed emotions. Feeling sorry for the lady that hit the car, being upset about the damage, and worried about how in the world the new parts will ever match, with all the different colors in the Hyper Blue. Hopefully Chevy will sell factory pre-painted parts. Even then, there's no guarantee it'll match, since it will have been painted from a different batch of paint.

Oh man, so sorry to see that happened. It just seems like when we have something really nice and that we are so passionate about, no matter how hard we try... someone or something is bound to mess it up. Try not to stress too much as it could always be worse. Just life I guess.

I say it all the time. Nice cars are gluttons for punishment. I don't know why, but some mystical force from the great beyond seems to always put a nice car in the path of destruction.

Glad nobody was hurt and while it's frustrating, it definitely seems like an honest mistake which the person feels terrible for. I had to stop caring as much about stuff like this or I would of ended up in the looney bin.

Awful news.. at the end of the day its just a car. If you get a good shop doing the work then it should be unnoticed. Good luck with the repairs!

Thanks guys. It's really hard not stressing about it. If it wasn't for the paint, I wouldn't be much worried about it, but when I've seen people have a hard time matching simple colors like black and white, it really scares me with a color like this. I told the lady who hit it, and trying to tell myself, it's just a car. It can be fixed.....but I've never loved a car as much as this one. My M6 99 WS6 Trans Am is definitely the only one even close, but there were things about it I didn't much like, like all the plastic interior that was all the same color. This car is about as close to perfection as one can get for me.

Sorry you're going through this, but keep it in perspective. The reality is that you just lost thousands of dollars and your car is no longer perfect. Everybody is OK and your life will not change. It's only money. I've been there, multiple times. The frustration now begins. All you want is to be "made whole", but it never happens. You will lose in this scenario every time. Their insurance company will likely approve only a repaired/remanufactured wheel and will not give you a diminished value claim, without you spending significant dollars lawyering up. In the end, you lose money either way. You shouldn't have to get your insurance company involved in this scenario where their client is 100% at fault, but you may need them to take care of the claim and then go after the other insurance company to get reimbursed. (I don't like this scenario, as this will likely be looked at as a claim by your insurer regarding future premiums.) It's just all around bad from the monetary standpoint and it's hard to swallow when it's no fault of your own. Insurance companies are never your friend, unfortunately.

Sorry to see that happen to anybody. If there is any good news it is that nobody was injured and they stayed to claim responsibility. The replacement parts are easy bolt-ons instead of something like a rear quarter that has to be cut and welded. The car is new so hopefully a little easier to match the paint.

Good luck with the repairs!

You nailed down more of my worries and concerns Stay In It. Fighting with their insurance company trying to get everything evenly squared away, which like you said, will never happen without a lawsuit. The most important thing is definitely that it's only material damages that can be replaced, and that hurt will go away once they are.

Yeah, it's always good news when no one is injured and I'm very thankful it wasn't some douchebag that hit it and drove off. I'm also glad it's bolt-ons like you said. I was hoping it was just going to be the fender and wheel, but unfortunately the paint was completely scraped away around the side marker on the bumper cover, so the entire front end will need to be painted. The simple colors I mentioned were also on new vehicles and I'm afraid that this Hyper Blue might be a multi layer paint that would need to be done just right to even get close to matching. Thanks for the good luck wish. I feel I'm definitely going to need it.

Agree.

This really sucks. Not making light of it at all, but this doesn't seem too bad to me. A reputable shop should be able to replace the fender and front clip and match the paint pretty well, and she will be like new again.

If it was the rear quarter, that's a whole different ball game. Another reason to back in to spots. I'd much rather have my front end swiped than the rear, unless it was just the rear bumper and didn't affect the quarter.

For sure. Damage is minimal. It's matching the paint to where it looks good as new, that's the scary part. The fender and side marker are the only parts that will for sure need replaced. I'm hoping the wheel will buff out. It appears to just have paint from the other vehicle on it from the looks of it. I was hoping the bumper cover was the same way, but the paint was scraped off around the marker light.

Feel your pain. Very fortunate it occurred on a more easily replaceable part. You might be surprised how well the paint comes out. Positive thoughts!
