updates on off season mods
Ok guys,
I mentioned that with the temps on these calipers reaching 425-450 degrees at the track that the powder coating was NOT holding up well. The Zl1 decals were pretty iffy as well when subjected to that heat. SO............I had the calipers CERAKOTE. CERAKOTE typically is a LOW GLOSS MATTE satin type finish. It DOES come in gloss but the satins are typically a little easier to maintain and clean. These SHOULD NOT change color when subjected to heat. Below are pics. Since my car is basically murdered out anyway, I did not want the color to be a distraction from that basic scheme so I had them done in a BRONZE color. I debated about a silver gray color or even a ZL1 1LE RED color but decided on this bronze. I am typically NOT a fan of anything in the brown color shade family but these look awesome on a black car with black satin wheels. I already had VENTED brake pistons (look at SECOND pic below) on the front calipers (came originally with corvette J57 option) so I got new brake piston dust boots and piston seals . Be aware that NOBODY typically stocks these boots and seals so you have to special order them and typically wait 5-7 days so plan ahead. Typically the seals hold up well if you HAVE to reuse them but the piston boots (dust covers actually) typically get heat damaged and HAVE to be replaced especially on the FRONTS. They DO make a much more heat-resistant SILICONE dust boot but those are easily damaged by brake fluid. Typically it costs 50-75 dollars per caliper to cerakote them. These will stand up to 500-550 degrees of heat so unless the caliper is actually on FIRE then you are probably good. I DO NOT plan on putting the ZL1 decals back on these calipers .

Yeah Thanks. The texture is not as smooth as powder coat but I am hoping the durability is much better. I will have some pics of them on the car in the next couple of days.

I'll join That1guy_tim in praising the color combo, this looks very classy, you stumbled upon some goldilocks color harmony here. And I'm not a fan of browns or copper/gold shades either.

Quote:
They WERE powder coated an ARGENT Silver (stock color was kind of a medium Gray) before and they required alot of maintenance because of how light a color they were and because of the intense heat I was throwing at them. These SHOULD be easier and less likely to be affected by a cleaning agent. Thanks for the feedback.

Standalone GPS installed
Ok,
So today we installed a standalone GPS system with satellite tracking capability and a host of other features such as me being notified if the car is being moved from its present location etc etc. Below the pics of what was installed and a satellite pic of where the car WAS a short while ago as an example. This is MUCH superior to the SIRIUS system which is dependent on that DOLPHIN antennae on top of the roof being in place and functional. The IPHONE APP that works with this CAR LINK system is pretty easy to use and gives you satellite image and address of where your car is at ON DEMAND.

PICS of finished calipers ON CAR
Ok here are pics below of the Cerakote calipers on the car. The color makes them noticeable but not too noticeable. I threw a view of the front as well just for good measure. LOL
