GM actually recently secured a patent for an electronic hydraulic slave cylinder. I would say the writing is on the wall for them to offer a manualmatic like what Ferrari and Lamborghini offer in their cars.

I don't think my left leg would be able to learn not to move when my right arm moves.

I remember years ago a friend of mine who drove a manual trans daily was driving his parents automatic one day. When he left, he went about 30-40 feet up the street before violently locking up the brakes.

Muscle memory had him stomp on the left pedal when he thought it was time to shift, problem was in the automatic that was his brake pedal.

Everyone got a good laugh out of that one.

I believe the main reason for it is for convenience really. The electronic clutch solves both the manual adjustment periodically needed with a cable clutch as well as the potential to leak with a hydraulic clutch. It also allows them to play with the position of the clutch in relation to the driver for say... a mid engine corvette.

LOL when I was looking for my car I had several different salesmen try and tell me that the paddle shifters in the manual cars were there so that you could shift with them when you got tired of manually shifting... I shit you not, and these were supposed to the Camaro experts at these dealerships. Some people man...
