I don't think you can go wrong either way with the insert. I wanted the carbon fiber initially, but ended up with the mosaic black insert and am really happy with it because I like how it matches the splitter and side skirts. That being said, I've seen the carbon fiber insert on hawk02's mosaic black car and if I had the mosaic black paint, I would definitely get the carbon fiber.

I wanted the sunroof and am glad I got it. I had t-tops on my Trans Am and love having the extra light. I don't track my car, so no experience with a helmet, but it would definitely be worth sitting in one with the sunroof to check clearance.

The exposed carbon fiber adds something special to the car.

On the sunroof, I am 5 11" With a helmet, I was very close to touching when I tested at dealership, but I sit upright. As others said, it would probably be ok if you sit tilted back.

I have a 2019 Satin Steel and got it without the exposed CF hood insert. 2 months later I regretted it and picked up the exposed CF insert and installed it..... now the painted piece is just sitting in my garage.

I completely understand the thinking on the cf insert. I won't get the splitter of diffuser in cf because the side skirts aren't available. With that being said, you can't go wrong with the cf insert. Get it, it sets the car off somewhat.
I have the sunroof and while I don't regret getting it, if I had the choice to do over I wouldn't.

Get the CF, nix the sunroof. Sunroof takes away a bunch of headroom.

I can't see how someone 6'3" could fit comfortable with a helmet and sunroof. I'm comfortable on the track but barely at 5'11", with no extra room. You may be able to get it to work but not be where you want to be in driving position, unless you have a short torso. I also don't like the idea of adding weight to the top of the car either. I love the carbon fiber insert. When I with or without I waited for one with. The inside I could do without carbon fiber though. Good luck and enjoy the ride whatever you decide.

If you ever have plans to track, drag or Auto-X your car, DO NOT get the sunroof. You will have a hard time fitting with a helmet on. Not to mention, the sunroof ruins the roof lines (in my opinion)

I'm probably one of the rare ones but I don't like the carbon fiber hood insert... looks out of place being the only carbon fiber piece on the car... it doesn't tie into anything else on the car so I did not check that box or the box for the sunroof but it's all subjective

Yes to carbon fiber insert. No to sunroof, if you're tracking you don't need more weight on this thing, and located in the worst place for handling.

One more thing about MY 2018 vs. 2019, they may have resolved the oil pump failure issue on 2019s.

+1 this! You gotta have more than one piece of exterior CF to make it work. The Carbon65 edition vette does CF so much better, like the big wang 1LE.

I agree with RDBill and I’m envious of his car. I like black on black and the carbon looks out of of place on it. That being said, it’s really hard to find one without it. Even though I prefer the black insert, I’m recommending to get it since most of the ZL1s have it. If you get it, the CF dash insert is a must to balance it out.

Get the CF & see how it grows on you...since you are going to wrap the mirrors / other parts, you can always wrap the CF if you aren't feeling the love. Since it's really more desirable overall, the wraps can be removed & possibly help trade in down the road??

Just a thought.

I would have agreed with everyone on the sun roof, until I got one. I'm 5' 9" and have no problem with a helmet.

I would have also skipped on the exposed CF insert, but I am so happy I got it as well.

Only option that is crap is the factory navigation.

Make sure you get the PDR!!!

Thanks for all the great input everybody.
Think I'm gonna get the carbon fiber insert. Probably will regret it if I don't.
For the sunroof situation, I went to a dealer and sat in one with a sunroof but it had the regular seats. Think it was a SS. I also sat in a ZL1 with the Recaros but it didn't have a sunroof. Seems the regular seat are way softer and I sit lower because of this (I'm 230lbs) so I couldn't get a real idea of if it was gonna work or not. There was enough room with the regular seats tho. The wife says get the sunroof lol.

Also I may cancel my order and grab a new 2018 sunroof and carbon insert equipped Nightfall Gray ZL1 I found for 10k less than the one I ordered! That is a lot of coin to pass up. I like the Satin Steel a tad better than the Nightfall but I would be fine with either. Should know tomorrow if that's gonna happen. Would have to dive 10 hours round trip tho.
