Another Update:

GM called. They told me that they and the dealership agreed that this would be the final repair attempt. They want me to test it with the new rack and if that fails they'll look into repurchasing or replacing the vehicle.

Ok, well at least that's somewhat fair considering the hell you've gone through already.

Trust the car and accept the repair or continue trying to lemon?

I'm assuming that the torque sensor is part of or included with the 'whole rack' ?

I would lemon the car. Even if you get the exact year, color, and engine it still could be a trouble-free car and compared to what this one has put you through that would be the only thing I would care about. The problem might be fixed but WHO KNOWS what else could go wrong, and that worry doesn't seemed so far-fetched when you look at what this particular car has put you through.

Glad to see something is finally happening, hopefully you get a good outcome.

Sooooo I'm not exactly happy with Chevrolet right now.

I finally got my car back (again)... Here is whats going on:

They replaced the steering rack (yay) and for now everything seems okay with the car (not been 24 hours yet, keep fingers crossed.)

They were supposed to have it ready for me on Saturday but GM Corporate held up the release as they needed their field tech to do a special writeup on the repair order and he couldn't do that until Monday. So I picked it up Monday morning before work and here's what happened...

First, in returning the loaner car -- There was previous damage on the loaner before I received it and I explicitely pointed it out to the person who did the walk around and I thought for certain I saw her writing it up. There were several scratches and a wheel fender plastic cover that was mis-aligned and partially exposed. Normally, I take pictures of stuff like this, I felt it would make me look a bit to skeptical to do this right infront of the service writer and I saw her writing it so I decided to trust her...big mistake...Upon turning it in they tried to blame the previous damage on me...they seemed to have dismissed it but I'm hoping I don't hear about this from my insurance company.

Now the next thing is, the Repair Order sign off was not complete...the field tech still needed more time...I may have made a mistake by doing this but I accepted delivery of my car before getting the repair order which they promised to have by tomorrow but now Im sitting here and this really makes me worry because I technically have no proof of this visit without it, that technically even includes the lack of proof of the steering rack replacement.

Meanwhile... Regarding replacing / repurchasing the vehicle... There are three separate issues going on with that...

#1 Last week while it was still down I spoke to the Business Resource Center agent in their Austin HQ who was still handling my case and told her per Georgia Law, if the car is down for 30 days or more, regardless of how many repair attempts the car had, its an automatic lemon and I have legal right to have it replaced. She told me she would look into it -- In between this, GM's Final Repair team in Detroit called me and told me they would accept the current repair as the final repair and they will replace the rack and would look into getting me a new vehicle if this repair fails. -- Then the Business Resource Center called back on Friday evening and told me that they will not replace the car despite the repair attempts and out of service dates due to the BBB complaint being filed in Texas and not Georgia (I did initially file it in Texas because I didn't know that Texas wouldn't cover it if the car was registered here but not purchased here.)

#2 -- Alittle over a week ago I spoke to the Georgia Consumer Protection unit and they told me I already qualify for a replacement or repurchase, and sent me a form to fill out and mail directly to GM and if GM still refused, they would step in on my behalf. So I filled it out and mailed it -- tracking says they havent received it yet so I'm waiting on that to happen. I told the Lemon Law specialist at the GA Consumer Protection Unit what the business resource center told me, they told me it holds no legal weight and is meaningless overall.

I'm not really sure how comfortable I feel with the car anymore. I want to be comfortable with it but Im very pissed and Im also worried that if this or other issues resurface in the future, Im going to get the run around again. Part of me is saying even though they repaired it, given their customer service ...I probably need to still push for them to buy it back.

Was seriously considering buying a 2SS 1LE this week... now I'm scared. Spending 50k on a depreciating asset is already a tough sell for me. Then to spend 50k and have headaches, stress, time wasted? Geez.

What's amazing about this whole ordeal is Chevy's BSing back and forth probably ended up costing them more than simply replacing the steering rack in the first place. The dealer didn't help the situation either. In fact, they contributed the most to it IMO.

It was one car. That could happen to anyone with any car, any brand. New or used it doesn't matter. If this 1 thread makes you not buy a car then I would stay away from any auto forums.
