I haven't messed with it in this car, but in all others there has always been a brightness knob or switch, and if you moved it up and down you could see the dash backlights dimming and brightening even in daytime conditions. Then when if it switches to night time it would dim from that position. There was always a "max" brightness setting on there too, and if it was clicked in to that position, it would stay at max brightness even after transitioning to night time.

So if there's a similar option/switch/knob, try switching it down a couple clicks while it's in day time setting. If my theory is correct, it will dim further when switching to night mode after that.

I thought there was a problem with my backup camera because when I was pulling out of the garage every time it would be black. Turned out that the dimmer was just all the way down. Minor adjustment and I can now see the camera image every time.
I will play with that and report back. Thanks for the suggestions

Hey new member and owner here. Can't find the right thread for the info display auto/day/night not working. Anyone have that thread I can read or answers on how to fix? The day and night buttons don't override the auto dimming and it stays dark at night.

Are you talking the heads up display? If so, there’s the three buttons to the left of the steering wheel on the dash, If you’re talking about a dim when lights on, I haven’t noticed that yet. But I’m also not the brightest star in the sky.

I have this annoying issue as well with mine. You have to manually adjust the HUD between day and night. Stupid.

Check to make sure you don't have anything covering the light sensor

Oh I thought there may have been another one I didn't know about. That one's always been clear.

My 23 ZL1, nor my 18 1LE, would not auto dim, I've always manually adjusted my HUD.
