BFG Rivals

I tried out the BFG rivals Saturday at a local road course.
I tried to run them at the same pressures I was runing my RS3, but they were all over the place (but they were also brand new). I ended up cold at 25/25 and they climbed to 32-33ish were they seemed to like it best.

Anyone else use Rival (non S) on a track (not auto-X) and what have you run for pressures?

Thanks,
Matt

I ran them at Gingerman last Monday (sunny 90 degree air temp), and starting at 28 psi the most they ever got up to was 33psi. The last two sessions I started them at 34 and ended up at 38 psi.

I have two track days on mine and they seem to be wearing great. I might get two years or 3,000 miles out of them.

Did you get any lap times at Gingerman on them?

1:47.1 was my fastest on Monday, but I've ran in the 1:46's with worn tires on the old surface. There is a guy with a GT500 that I ran with last year and he said he was about 2 seconds slower than the first time he ran the new surface. He was running GYF1's. It was extremely hot! I'll be back there in mid September then again in October. Hope it's cooler.

These may be might next set once I run out of F1 stock in the basement. Very interested to hear what people have to say. I know the new S model will not last a season from what I understand, but the originals should make it without issue.

I good source at the Tire Rack said stay away from the S for track use, but the original Rival does great! I'm very happy with mine so far. I'll be back at autobahn on the 21st.

Not fond of the Rivals, even Detroit Speed stopped using them on their White Monster Camaro, they remind me of the NT-05 for grip....

Ken Thwaits ran the Rival S on his Z28 at Charlotte Optima event, and they overheated very quickly on the road course, they were good on the Autocross.

Thanks... I have run 1:44.7 on the GY and then 1:44.01 on RS3, both last year on the old surface, long course..

Socal, yes they heat up very quickly... my fastest times are in the first 1/2 of a 20 minute session. I found that dropping the pressure lower than I expected cold helped.

Ken has been coming in during the session and wetting the tires down to cool them off like you do in between autocross laps, seems to help for him.

Interesting. I ran them again this weekend and had much better success than the first outing. It was a tad cooler ambient, and I started them around 28F/30R. They came right out of the box and felt better. When the pressure got over 35 I can feel them "falling off" or getting loose. (Short/tight 1.5mule road course) I adjusted the pressures during the day to keep them in the 32/34 range. Wear looked great and they pick up rubber and stones like a race tire when hot.
