440 hp lt-1 rumor?

http://jalopnik.com/source-2016-cama...o-f-1704710074

So GM threw on headers so they could lose 15-20hp and gain no torque? In all my years I've never thought such a thing was even physically possible. Hoping this is just extra negative inspired by haters on top of the initial bland pics ( for the record I'm waiting for the reveal and different pics to judge fully)

New sae standards require motors to make within 1% from motor to motor. So the previous ls3 at 426 compared to the vette at 430 was normal. In this case 440hp is beyond the limits of tolerance between motors for sae standards. In other words it was re-engineered to put out less power ( not just rated a smudge less) and this was accomplished in part by the use of headers? Blows my mind. Guess they could have just killed the tune and the car will really wake up with a tune...which is somewhat cool... But idk this has me a bit sour.

At 440 hp and most likely very similar weight as the stang GM would be giving us just enough to edge out the mustang and even with a scat pack. Talk about playing it safe. An extra 15-20 hp would mean a lot in this situation.

If true very retarded. Not a deal breaker and car should still perform but very weak sauce...with all this talk of team camaro and swinging for the fences 440 hp is the exact opposite.

They have no idea. They didn't even know the LGX V6 would possibly be in the new Camaro. Don't put any faith in this.

Hoping so but they claim a good source. In life negatives usually come in multiples...Not fond of the back end of the car so figured what the hell how about finding out its only 440hp as well...guess I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised...

Those might be the "the car will make more than" numbers given. Let's hope that's the case.

I heard that the Pontiac Solstice engine is the one being used in the 2016 Camaro.
They use the same engine in the new Polaris Slingshot as well.

A 2.0-liter turbo four as the base engine with 270 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque.
It was great in the light weight Solstice GXP I had but in a Camaro?! Come on GM put that bad boy Twin Turbo v6 or V8 in the lineup.

The solstice used Gen II Ecotec LNF (GXP) or LE5 4 cylinders.... the camaro will likely use the 2.0T LTG or 2.5 LCV Gen III Ecotec

If it is 440, it was done to improve MPG.

I see it as being 450 HP , & 450 torque numbers also...

I would be surprised and dissapointed at 440HP. You can't show us Tri-Y headers and then reduce the HP by 15 from the 'vette. If I had to guess, I would say if they want to protect the 'vette, the Camaro would still get 450HP. If GM is no longer protecting the 'vette, we may get substansially more HP than 450. I hope we find out the actual numbers tomorrow...

So you guys know that the change is HP numbers could be from different, more restrictive exhaust and intake systems? If I had to guess they're underrating the engine and really they will make more than 440.

They don't underrate engines. The engines are rated by SAE. The numbers they give are exactly what it makes.
