Same here. I'm hoping we will see the phase one (drop in pressure to 20 or so PSI) in enough time to take it in. I'm concerned about the ability of the repair shop whether that be Chevrolet or otherwise.

That's awesome. You may have passed the point at which failure was indicative of a bad oil pump. There are people with 2017-18 that have original oil pumps with high mileage. I wish there was some way to tell who has those good and problematic ones.

Me too for sure! I have Socals OEM pump that is supposedly revised because it’s MY2020 I think? Just in case I notice low pressure signs. I still haven’t ruled out the katech option, but in my situation that would depend on timing as I would prefer to do that after I’m out of warranty.

Either way as you’ve stated if we’ve made it this far on the pump our chances are good. I’ve also learned in this hobby and others like it, never hurts to have a plan b even c sometimes.

Hi all,

The issues discussed here are the exact reason I sold my ‘18 ZLE. I loved the car but the low oil pressure was a constant worry. I never had it hit the 20’s, but it was always lower than I was comfortable with on a high performance motor, even switching to the 0-40W Mobil 1.

My new ‘22 is consistently at 43-48 psi on cold start up and runs at 42-45 psi warm, cruising at 2200 rpm, using the recommended Mobil 1. These numbers are better than the ‘18 ever was. Whatever changes GM made to the factory oil pump it seems to be a reasonable improvement, based on my experience and the fewer post ‘20 MY numbers noted as failing on this forum.

If I ever decide to add a bigger cam, I would certainly consider adding a Katech oil pump. I would have liked the dry sump oil system like my ‘15 Z/28 had too, but I guess that didn’t fit the Gen-6 platform.

Good luck to all you early year owners, and to us all I suppose!

JJ

I actually scheduled a replacement of my pump for a few weeks from now to the new revised oe pump. Not sure what I'll do after that, but at least I can stop worrying, or if I sell it I can do so with a clear consciousness. I do plan to run track days this year and want to limit possible issues as much as possible.

At 2200 RPM cruising, warmed up, mine is also at 40+ PSI. Does your '22 drop into the 30's at idle?

Unless the job is all under warranty, I'd still opt for Katech. If I recall, Zach said they can replicate the same failure on every revision of the OEM pump. While there may or may not be some sales spin to that, if I'm going to have it open anyway, I'd replace it with theirs. Just my 2c.

Wise words, that's what I'll do if the engine ever gets opened up again (she is currently on 12686434, the latest GM oil pump that I know of).

Zach @ Katech said the repro required more and more stress with newer revisions, but eventually all GM pump revisions failed as they are essentially the same design with minor variations, whereas their pump is a ground-up solution. He is obviously a Katech employee, so there's that, but his info has always been trustworthy over time.

Hi,

Even in the AZ summer heat my ‘22 idles right at 39-40 psi. I can tolerate those numbers, which were much higher than my ‘18 was in the same conditions. I’m still using Mobile 1 recommended oil as l’ve seen no need to change brands.

Again, I’m MUCH happier with the ‘22 ZLE over the ‘18.

I have a 18 ZLE and have decided to also do the katech oil pump, timing chain and dampener katech recommend. I already have all the parts. My car was built 6/25/18 so it’s a later build and I have no pressure issues. Idles hot at 30 but with my warranty about to expire and seeing all these stories I figured why not. I even send my oil in for testing and the tests have always been great. My issue is what else to do while I’m in there. I’m somewhat limited on what I’m wanting to spend. We have some great shops here but I know this is a big job and parts are very expensive right now. Wondering what opinions are out there.

If it were me, a stage 1 cam. Very little chop, more fuel and some extra power.

Would that also require doing a head upgrade as well or just a cam?

To my understanding a cam is a mod that has no additional requirements besides a tune.

Called RPM shop about 75 miles away. It's $2800 for labor to change pump. I already have the pump. When warranty expires, I'll make a trip to them. Anyone work with them?
