More V8s in 2024?

https://gmauthority.com/blog/2023/07...v8-lt1-engine/

With a limited production run for 2024, any idea on how "60% more" V8s will be made than in 2023?

They are only doing this because it's the last V8 Camaro that will be ever made. A dealer explained to me that due to federal mandates on emissions they are only allowed so many V8 engines based on how many electric and gas mizer cars they can sell. The most profitable V8 they can sell is in a truck so they prefer the business model of assigning those V8s to trucks, not to the Camaro. Logic says that was one reason they discontinue the Camaro so all those V8s can go into profitable trucks and Corvettes.

Every time I hear “federal mandates” I get the urge to punch a few very high level politicians. Everyone knows the biggest one.

He and his ilk have been hell bent on destroying everything purely American forever.

Yep, the same morons claiming the world is ending due to "climate change" and want everyone driving around in clown cars with battery packs.

GM should just put a big wheel in every dealership for buyers to spin to see which engine and other options they’ll be allowed to order on their ‘24 Camaros.

Interesting... So basically v6s will be super limited, and I believe the turbo 4 is gone too for 2024. This would be great news if Chevy could actually not have such constraints on the 1LZ/1SS/2SS trims.

2SS itself isn’t so bad according to my dealer. I had an easy, quick time getting my allocation through to a guaranteed production first week of Aug. 7th.

It’s when you add the special packages like 1LE, ZL1, Panther, etc, that allocations get difficult.

Week of Aug 7 for my 2SS VERT, 6spd, DM, etc.
And now to sit out the transport wait game.

Yeah the logistics part is the longest part of the wait. It could be sitting in the Lansing yard for 2 weeks then at any rail transfer yard for another few weeks.

Meanwhile I live a 2.5 hour drive away from Lansing. I could go rent the truck and trailer, drive up to Lansing, bring it back to my dealer, take the rental back while my dealer does PDI, go BACK to my dealer to sign the papers and pay for it, and be home before the sun goes down!!

I'm not sure how to interpret this news. In 2023, two dealers told me it would be easier to get a ZL1 than an SS.

And sure enough, I got the ZL1 I ordered. If the dealers had told me the opposite, maybe I would've settled for an SS...but things went my way.

Another fun fact: I believe that early in Gen6, the LT4 engines in ZL1s were not made in Bowling Green, but for 2023, they were, and mine has the builder's name plate.

As for government mandates, it's time to get over it. After 2024, the best muscle cars and super cars will be hybrid and electric. That way, maybe our great grandchildren will have a planet to live on. So how is it that I have a new ZL1? Well, I don't feel too bad because my private solar power station produces 80% of the electricity I use.

We each have our own opinions on that bovine excrement. Which really is what government mandates are.

I’m happy to open my windows in my house to run my R-12 charged air conditioner at 68 degrees…… I put up a beach chair and grab a beer just to see how fast I can get my electric meter to spin when I hear “government mandates”

No electric car can ever be confused for a muscle car. If you can’t hear or feel it it might as well be refrigerator.
