I think most electric cars are throwaway cars. Once their huge expensive battery packs need to be replaced, people will dump them for next new EV on the market. In fact, most will probably trade/sell them long before that expense occurs.

You buy a mid level Tesla Model 3 with the performance option. You drive it around for a few years acting like a bad azz because you're keeping up or beating high performance ICE vehicles from 0-60. When it comes time to replace the battery packs, are you going to invest the money required to replace the batteries? Or, are you just going to replace it with another new EV vehicle? If not, why? Does the current Model 3 have some type of heritage or great design you want to preserve like an old classic car? I'm thinking probably not for most people.

There is really nothing special about them except for the competitive performance they offer over ICE's and the ability to run on electric instead of gas. Sure, saving on gas and the lower upfront maintenance costs are part of it too, but does that really matter to the traditional person who buys a ICE performance car like the Camaro, Mustang or Challenger?

In the future when EV's are common on the road, they will be just another vehicle with the ability to travel to 60 in under 3 secs. That particular performance metric will not be that impressive anymore because everyone will be able to do it. They will be just another bland, boring styling EV owner racing to 60 in under 3 secs on their way to work. The street cred of being a bad azz with a quick EV will vanish because it won't be special. So, I think this current focus on performance over styling and design is a bad thing for EV manufacturers IMO.

Ironically, it is partly us, the 5th gen Camaro connoisseur, that will keep values on these cars low. These cars were not produced in low volume, aside from some very specific model types. Those of us that regularly care for our cars, keeping them looking brand new by washing, waxing, detailing, replacing every single part before it wears...we are ensuring that more of these cars are kept on the road in pristine condition. The more of them that remain on the road in good condition 20-30 years from now, the less they will be worth overall.

I know some of you will disagree and think this is ridiculous, but there is at least some truth in it.

Tesla has been very underwhelming in their recent designs IMO. The Model 3 and Model Y are pretty dorky looking compared to the original Model S, but people seem to like them. Ugh!

Took the Kooks long tubes and cats off the car and took it to Chevy today, got the stock tune put back on since my tuner got stolen. They offered me $20,000 and wouldn't budge. Had to walk I couldn't do it today

I'm pretty sure Stick was pointing out that Hagerty was calling the fairly new Camaro an instant classic. You gotta love the explanation for the #6 Boss Mustang. "... use to scare the neighborhood kids in 2035, just to remind them that there once was a time when cars made noise".

The 5th gen is an instant classic IMO. How could it not be. They made it look like a modern interpretation of the 1st gen, particularly the 1969, which IS a classic. The 6th gen design strayed too far away. So, I don't think they will be as desirable even though the performance is better.

It's inclusion in the article kind of puts at question if any of the cars are "instant classics"....
I wondered if anyone else thought some of those cars cast doubt on the validity of the article.
