Replaced the battery, Right move?
I have the V6 and a 2016 convertible. Yesterday it seemed like a couple of times I started the car there was an ever so slight hesitation on the crank speed. The battery is at least 4 1/2 years old. I used the dealer and the cost out the door was $400. I think I did the right thing given that the battery is in the trunk and is a pita to get at. Just wondering what the group thinks. My wife slightly questioned the decision but she appreciates that we don't want to have to worry about it.

My truck was just about five full years old when the battery just puked. Very little warning prior to that except a couple of times that it sort of "slow cranked." Physically replacing the battery isn't necessarily difficult, just a little convoluted because it's in cramped quarters. If you're happy with the decision and the cost, and the issue you were having doesn't return, then it sounds like a win to me.

My 1999 BMW M3 convertible needed a battery swap at the 5 year mark. Completely normal. The internet seems to say "3 to 5 years".
Consumer Reports - Car Battery Buying Guide On the $400 for the battery and swap, do you know how much the battery "part" was an how much the labor was? In any case, I would suggest you find a good local independent auto mechanic who will give you great service, do your normal scheduled maintenance and special requests, and beat the dealer's price. I checked Yelp, found Alvin's Auto Center in San Jose, and they have done fantastic work for me: installed mods like skip shift/1 touch top down/Gen 2 charger pad, and done services like oil/brake fluid/coolant. They are so diligent that they even notified me that my coolant color changed from pink (factory DexCool) to orange (refill DexCool) and they confirmed with their Chevy service contact that this is normal (check the web for conspiracy theories). Thx Ember. I'm a huge Consumer Reports fan. If the Camaro battery is a Type 48 (per GM Parts Center), a snippet of prices shows that some of the batteries approach $300, but some well/top rated ones can be gotten for $200 or less.

Thank you for you comments. The battery part was $260. Amazon had it for $190. Being close enough to walk to the dealer. Priceless ( well close).

Be sure you get the AGM version of the battery.

Just FYI, there are threads on here about slow crank issues. The resolution is changing the negative battery cable and ensuring the ground at the frame is clean of paint, etc.

$400 isn't bad.
I got one of these and installed myself. A bit easier to do the install in the vert since the trunk trim easier to temporarily fold out of the way. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...agm/10210829-P |

2017 RS Convertible Replaced battery myself.
I know this is an older post, but maybe this will help someone... So I have a 2017 RS Convertible and 2 days ago went to start it and all I heard was a pre start click and that's it, it's never not started since I got it!
So I was thinking it's the AGM battery and it's an AC Delco battery, so I found 1 48 at Batteries Plus $300 ish and then I looked at Amazon same basic all having a 3 year warranty and then just checked Walmart and they have same spec "EverStart Platinum AGM Battery, Group H6 (12Volt/ 760CCA)" $179 and coupon "WOWFRESH" save $10 so $169 + tax, and saw no core charge, but read later that it's built in. So $183.00 got it yesterday and the sticker shows 8/23 made date so not old stock. So today put it in and fits great and the vent port same as the AC Delco and put the bracket in and cleaned off the Neg terminal as looked needed cleaning with fine sandpaper. So for $183 with tax, all I had to do is fully charge it took 4 hours at 10 amp charger and worked...So far go deal? https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart...0CCA/944775111 Christopher |

There is a top position sensor behind and above the battery on the top mechanism. Be careful that you don't knock the connection off when you're wrestling the battery in. It will report that the top action is not complete.
I found out the hard way.
