Break In Period

Just curious how many of you guys have "strayed" from the recommended break in period?

Obligatory track prep manual page post coming . According to Chevy, yours at 540 miles is ready for WOT and street fun but not for the track just yet:

I won't admit to anything on a site that Chevy has been known to monitor.

arpad, thank you.
I'll get too that oil change next. Looks like I have 960 more to go for track use.
The problem here in the northeast is the fricking weather of 2018.

So what is so different about this engine that it should have the oil changed in the first 500 miles ? This seems crazy and a waste unless they are using a special break-in oil from the factory.

That has been kind of the norm for years for high performance vehicles.

Tell me about it... I had been planning to play with my 2SS happily at the end of March, and even now it's all rain and felled trees left and right after the last storm :(

We have a tree service here in east/central Pa., and its been very busy.
I guess it must be true up here, we now have the new four seasons: June, July, August and winter!

I’m sorry, it just does not make any sense, the oils today, especially the oil that is supposedly in this engine are normally good for 15k+ miles in any other vehicle. My 18’ Raptor is a high performance engine and has an initial oil interval of about 10k miles, that includes running it hard after a 1k mile break in, and while I had it changed at just under 5k as the first change the dealer gave me a hard time for changing it so soon !

If anything I’d think that such fresh oil, again fancy synthetic would inhibit break-in, used to be manufactures not so long ago specifically said in the manuals of many vehicles not to use synthetic oil until well after the break-in period. So, please, someone enlighten me !

The initial break in oil has a significant amount of metals and contamination that the oil filter doesn’t capture. It makes sense to at lest change the oil at 500 miles. An oil analysis willl conform this. The oil is obviously not breaking down. It’s covered under the free initial oil changes.

Ideally the factory oil should be a non synthetic oil. Haven’t read that anyone has changed it to a non synthetic during breakin and then switched back. I’ve wondered anout this too since there have been members who’ve had oil consumption problems.
