Question Dents On Roof

I recently had some random dents on the roof of my car that I brought to the dealer to get fixed. They had a guy come out and say that they couldn't do a simple PDR (Paintless Dent Repair), and have to now strip the whole roof (roof, back glass, & sunroof) and reassemble and repaint it. Do you guys think they just did that to get more money? Because the dents do not seem major and it kind of kills me seeing my car being taken apart like that being only a year old.

Oof, that’s pretty substantial. Did you see what happened? That’s crazy PDR can’t get that out. I guess I would seek a second opinion from another shop.

do you park near a baseball field? My daughter just had a dent appear on the hood of her Cruze last week and it was kids playing softball. Anyway, I would get a second opinion, and a third.

granted they do not show the actual repair but if this is a true PDR... this example has more of a "crease" in it

I know this will sound crazy but: Clean off the wax and then wet the dent. Use a small toilet plunger and you should be able to pull the dent out. Used to do the procedure back in the day when car body panels were a lot more dense and worked pretty good.

I had a dent like this on mine. happened when I leaned on the car, bending over to pick something up. The sheet metal on these new cars, is as thin as a pepsi can. Mine came out with a suction cup.

I rented a 16' SS a while back at budget location and let me tell you, i discovered that there were like 10 little ding looking marks on both of the rear quarter panel body curve below the rear window. I looked at them more careful and wanted to see how thin the metal was and by just lightly pressing on the panels i was able to put small depressed dings into it without effort. Just a word of caution if you haven't already found out. A PDR can get these out with ease but just be weary of those panels my friends.

Definitely need to be extremely careful, I've felt my roof flex just wiping it down during and after my first wash. When it happened lets just say it was a butt tightening experience. The Metal is way too thin...............
Question with the PDR is some of the tools I've seen pop the dent with some force.
Is it possible that with the metal being so thin the dent will not come out smooth enough in the first place showing subtle signs of the repair?
Could this be a reason for not doing PDR. IMO, it seems you would need someone highly experienced for this task.

There was a thread where these dimples occur on sunroof cars.

It's flexing due to inadequate bonding adhesive on the roof panel.

Repair is to replace roof skin.

Waves in the outer roof skin:
