My P0128 Fix.
I replaced the thermostat housing for my Camaro v6 3.6l RS. My Fan was on full blast after 15 min of start up. My coolant temp would never go above 167 F. I bought thermostat housing from autozone for $71.00. Shipped within 2 days. Installed the new thermostat. My car's Coolant Temp is now between 197 F and 205 F.
I first thought It was the coolant sensor on the side of the engine that is difficult to access. I tried order the thermostat housing for gmwholesaledirect but there was non in stock. Blah blah blah. Look at the pictures they'll probably help. It took me about a little under 2 hours to replace. Last edited by RS16; 01-02-2020 at 04:34 PM. |

P0128 code is for stuck open thermostat and or no thermostat.
good job on figuring it out. I always feel better when I figure out mechanical things on my own as I know it has been fixed right if I do it.

I feel the same.
The thermostat must have been stuck open allowing much more coolant in. I have about 70 k miles on it. When I took my car in for service one time I was told the Fan Blowing on High constantly was due to the Cooling Fan Control Module or an electrical harness. Before agreeing for the $,$$$ go ahead. I swapped the cooling fan control module from a friend that has the same Camaro and sure enough it was not the cause. |

Nice work, love the fact you swapped out a friends module first, eliminated that as the cause and dug deeper to fix.

You wouldnt happen to have a picture of the water neck from the back would you? IM trying to see if its uniform in shape and if I can flip it to have the water neck point the opposite way (custom radiator set up)

I'm going to have to do this soon. How did you clear the metal oil lines that come over the bolts you need to undo to get it out? Someone else said they gave up and just molested the tstat spring and bolted it back down.
Also what kind of coolant leakage are we looking at when taking the housing off? Or is there some way to cleanly drain some fluid so it doesn't flow out? |
