Overkill LGX Supercharger Development Thread

Hello everyone. Overkill Motorsport is in the process of developing a supercharger system for the 2016+ 3.6 Camaro and this is a thread that I'll be sharing pictures starting next week of the development process, sharing details of the kit and insight into the design.

For those to whom Overkill is not familiar, my name is Will, I'm the owner and head tuner for Overkill, my company specializes in V6 performance and I'm more well known on the 5th Gen Camaro V6 boards with tuning services and originating the 80mm throttle body and flex fuel kits (both coming for the 6th gen).

A few details I can share right now on the kit are it should be very similar to our 5th Gen Camaro system shown below...

You can see the aluminum crankshaft pulley above, shown in more detail below...

That pulley delivers a dedicated 8-rib belt system to drive the supercharger and only the supercharger...

The system will use a Vortech V3 supercharger unit, our CNC aluminum mounting brackets, an air to air front mounted intercooler system with blow off valve, and will include a catch can specifically designed for this supercharger system, as well as Overkill tuning services through a handheld Autocal tuning device.

And here's the beautiful 2016 Camaro that the development will be done on...

More to come!

I can't wait! I was actually contemplating on getting a V8 to mod due to the lack of aftermarket for the LGX. I look forward to doing business in the future!

What's the price point you are shooting for?

This is very cool. I'm an SS owner but I was big into the V6 scene with my 2010 model. There was only one supercharger kit (my opinion) worth doing on that car, and that was the IPF kit. Past that there were turbo kits, but they all seemed to be very finicky and required constant maintenance. It was not something I would have done....I would have wanted a do once and done solution, and IPF was the only thing that seemed to hit that promise.

Hopefully this kit will be that way.

Being a centrifugal setup it should provide lots of great top end power and great pull in the power band getting there, but those looking for ultimate low end grunt may not be as happy, as if a top mount solution was available. I don't consider this a bad thing as the car will still be screaming fast and will be easier on the stock drivetrain.

I hope this works out well for you guys. V6 guys could use a few more bolt on type mods while your at it.

I think this is the most important question.

Power could be just 50hp increase over stock and that would be the best hp bolt-on available for the V6 by default. Price is what really matters.

We'll post dyno numbers once completed. Our 5th gen LFX kit has no problems eclipsing 400 wheel horsepower and loves the boost, we hope the same or better out of the LGX. We'll be targetting around 8psi for a base kit and 10+ as an upgrade.

Pricing will depend on the parts required. Our 5th gen kit retails for $6499. There are some parts subtracted from the LGX kit but other parts undoubtly will need to be added before we're done with development. Here's my thread on the 5th gen kit http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=472805

We'll have a top mount developed at a future date, but we'll need to see some hoods developed for the 6th gen that'll allow it to clear.

I had a question about the vortech unit.

Have you done any testing using a smaller supercharger vs one that seems built for a V8 (website says the v3 makes over 700hp)? I ask because the bigger, bulkier supercharger is made to handle the strain and stress of 700+hp that it'll never see installed on the lgx.

That sounds like a lot of wasted weight spinning around that doesn't need to be. Would you not potentially get more performance out of the lgx with a lighter and probably smaller supercharger? Price probably wouldn't be much different but the parasitic loss could be.

Or does it end up not making any measurable difference?
