GM Battery Charger / Tender 84020223 - Question

So I decided to get one as my car might sit for a while, maybe a few weeks. Then a day out, then a few weeks sitting, etc...

The question -

Anything special I should know or do? I have used them before on other vehicles, I am just asking for this unit and vehicle to see if there are any quirks.

Not as far as I can tell. I have left mine in a garage for 2 months on a charger and it's just fine.

I've kept several different cars on DELTRON Battery Tender Plus units for 6 months of winter hibernation. My suggestion would be to compare pricing/warranty/availability to the CTEK (same as GM) and the DELTRON offerings.

Red goes to positive, black to negative lol

Just make sure it is a reputable tender (which you have purchased on) and things should be fine.

I hooked mine up underneath the hood because I back my car into the garage and was worried that one day I may be stupid enough to be in a rush and jump in the car and attempt drive away while it was still plugged in. With it under the hood, I have to walk by the wire to get in the car.

Anyway, I installed the lead with the car in the driveway. Fired the car up to back into the garage and immediately got a CEL. I don't remember the code but it had something to do with Low Voltage. I reset the code and uninstalled the lead. Fired the car back up, no CEL. Turned everything off and let the car sit for 20 minutes, remembering that when I installed my Soler Throttle Controller, the instructions said to open doors or do anything to the car, then let it sit for 10-15 minutes to let the BCM de-energize. I reinstalled the lead in the exact same way, made sure the ground lug was tight and flush, then fired the car up, no CEL. Been working great ever since.

I do not know exactly what the issue was but something tripped the system up into throwing a Low Voltage code, that was fixed by basically re-checking my connections.

Just FYI.

I have used these tenders on all my toys (boat, RV, ATV) for decades. Nothing special to do. The CETEK seems like a good one to use, I have one too. What ever you do , dont buy the cheapy harbor freight ones..they boiled the juice out my mower battery in like a month.

Thats hooked to the wrong end. I have mine attached to the battery in the trunk. Push the electronic trunk release and hook it up. If I opened my hood that often, I would surely dent that super thin sheet metal.
