anyone doing NASA TT3
Would the SS 1LE be competitive in NASA TT3? What mods would you have to make to be competitive in this class?
I've been looking into since I have a few friends in it now with other cars. Looks like here in Texas there are some M3s on slicks that are 3-4 sec faster than me on G3Rs. Also the TT3 car count is low and with me they may have 4 or 5 cars in it. Last edited by carguy55; 11-28-2020 at 02:48 PM. |

I think it could be competitive, I did 3 NASA TT this yr. I ran in TTU only because I don't have a dyno sheet yet. But I would have been 2nd in tt3 at the last event at CMP . You will definitely want Hoosier A7s and you could do most any suspension mods per my understanding. I don't think you are allowed to do many if any horsepower mods based on the hp/ weight.

I suspect it would be very competitive if you were on A7. Wish we had more of a turnout here, if I felt like we would get 5 people then I would go for it. So far we just get like 1-3 people in class and it seems I'm faster than them on SC3 based on lap time. I'll probably run a couple times next year just on the supercar 3 if the turnout seems low.

You would need to be on slicks and have the HP/Weight near the class limit. I like the NASA format, but the track configuration can play a huge part if you are heavy on the weight side.

I have looked into NASA TT requirements briefly but it seems like you need slicks and aero to be competitive.
I believe SCCA has some TT classes that don't allow slicks which would be more appealing to me if I ever move from HPDE to TT in the future. But I prefer to stay in HPDE for now to keep the car's factory HPDE use warranty and gain more driving experience. Also iirc, you might be able to get into NASA TT4 with the adjustment for running stock tires if you don't want to run Hoosiers but not sure if the car would be competitive in TT4 on stock tires either. Yes, I took a quick look at NASA TT & came to a similar conclusion that mods would be necessary to be competitive. I've run in the SCCA TT & the SS 1LE with GY SC3s (not the race tire) is quite competitive in the S2 class...note, also in S2 are some Corvettes & Mustangs. In the "S2" category, tires must be 200tw or higher. It's a good class to run in stock configuration.

I won the TT2 class in my ZL1 on GY3R's. You get a weight/power break for running 100TW or higher. I normally run the S1 class in SCCA with 200TW tires.

I doesn't help to compete with the M3 "race cars" that are in the group. Good news we have 8 cars in TT3 for the first event, one of them the 2019 National champion..
