USB drive for MP3 music

What all has everyone been using. I bought one of the really short 32g Scandisk drives, formatted it and put all of my songs on the drive. Plugged it in and no go. The car wont recognize it. I went back and forth and maybe once out of every 6 or 7 tries it will see it and play, but the next key cycle the card wont work.

What all is every one else using that works for sure?

I'm using a SanDisk Cruzer Fit 32gb, so nothing really sticks out to leave more room with what little is under the arm rest. FAT32 format, haven't had any issues with it.

Try reformatting it for FAT32 using Windows. Some times the formatting on the drives out of the box is not the most compatible. Either that or you have USB port issues.

I already formatted it, that was the first thing I did to get rid of the Sandisk encryption stuff they give you and still no go. The other stick style drive is working just fine though.

Sounds like a bad drive then. I think I have a PNY 3.0 stick. Will check.

I had a problem with the first SanDisk mini cruiser that I tried with FAT32 formatting. It turned out that it was not compatible with USB 3. You have to get the USB 2 version.

USB Support
If equipped, the USB connector is in
the front of the center console, and
uses the USB 2.0 standard.

Usb 3.0 is backwards compatible. I am using a 3.0 drive right now in mine with zero issues. The 3.0 is actually faster to change tracks than my 2.0 was which is funny, since the speeds aren't backwards compatible. Maybe just because it's a higher quality drive.

I'm using a 128GB PNY flash drive, right out of the package. I don't remember the model or the specs on it. I did not format it, and it works just fine.

I love those compact USB drives. I'm using the Verbatim Nano 32GB; USB 2.0; Formatted FAT32.
Been in the car since last April. Holds a $hit load of music. Can barely see it when you open the console. No issues with it at all.

Well I have now found it not working with either of the drives I have, at least not at start up. I can go thru the DIC down the road and the drive will show up and work. Then after the key cycle it wont show up next time.

Please allow a stupid question. Can you just copy your itunes folder from your computer, to the jump drive, and MyLink will recognize it and allow you to play the music?

Incorrect. mp3, wma, aac (iTunes), m4a (also used by iTunes I believe), and aif formats are supported.

Now as for copy the iTunes library straight to the stick, not sure. iTunes has a convoluted file structure by default. There's a guy on this forum who built a program specially to take your iTunes playlists and extract them to a USB stick. It's called CarPlaylist. Give that a shot.
