I always try for a corner spot, sometimes waiting. Let your passenger out first, then, hug the corner, leaving you up to 2 feet before your first white line on the exposed side. Even if the guy touches your line, he still will have plenty of room to avoid a door ding.
Ask your passenger to help you, so you do not hit your rims. If you do not have a passenger, don't just trust your judgement, get out and look and make sure you do not hit your rims or front spoiler. Do as much as you can to only expose one side of your car and make sure you are deep into the other side of the spot. Again, do not be embarrassed to get out and look, do it twice if you have to. This has worked for me for years in LA and will give you better piece of mind.

OP, I wouldn't let it get to you. People are self centered and jealous. We live in a city full of scumbags so we have our city car, a 2010 Honda Fit. It's small, dinged up and paid off. It's sad you have to think this way nowadays.

I agree with this.

Most people don't do it on purpose or with malicious intent, they just don't think or pay attention.

Common sense just isn't so common anymore.

I think this happens because the driver liked your camaro and wanted to check it out not realizing the fear they bring. Hopefully you didn't get any dings.

I had to do the "shimmy" to get into my car!

What is wrong with people?
Sorry for the rant.

Was the first space open when you parked, because will always park on the end somewhere and the front or back against the curb. So only one idiot can park next to me.

It's already trashed look at the fender. I hate people like that and it is the exact reason why I'll always have two cars so that I don't have to stress about those assholes messing up my nice car.

Tyrol, I did forget to mention that I too park next to the curbing also and it seems to work out! It always amazes me that we park in BFE and somebody sees it and has to park next to us usually in a beater car or truck! Guess they’re checking out our nice looking Camaros!

careful taking two spaces man. I've heard stories of cars getting keyed because of being parked in two spaces. Even if you're at the far end of the lot where no one is going to park anyway.

I get why you're doing it, I would do it too but these cars attract enough attention.

It's unfortunate that other people can't admire someone else's nice possessions. Jealousy is a big problem in our society.

Yeah man that's not a good idea even when there is plenty of available parking. It for some reason turns jealous assholes into even bigger jealous assholes.

I have had friends, who are car people as well, pull the a-hole move of seeing a car parked out in the middle of nowhere and making sure to park right next to it, knowing that its likely to set the owner off. Too me, come on, you know exactly why that person parked that way, just let them be. Let me ask, had it been another nice car that had parked next to you, would you have been set off? Mustang, Challenger, Corvette, new Supra whatever... They park next to you knowing exactly why you're parked there, knowing you're going to respect their car and vice versa... does that still erk you?
