1le Not Covered under Warranty for Track Use
Hi All,
Long story short my car is eating throw out bearings every few hundred miles. The dealer says since its been on the track GM will void the warranty. (they made this assumption based on my tire wear, dust imprint on my drivers side door). They basically position themselves this way to keep me from getting my car fixed, but i have it word for word. So is that it? The 1le track package is not covered under track use? I read the articles about motor trend and etc, but i have yet to see anything official in the warranty documentation. |

Literally in the high performance manual: "Track events or competitive driving may affect the vehicle warranty. See the warranty manual before using the vehicle for racing or other competitive driving" |

So out of curiosity - who's on the hook for proving that a trip to the track was or was not a competitive event? Does GM have to prove it was for more than just timed-lap fun? Or does the owner have to prove that there was no competition/prizes?
Either way, to the OP - as others have said - go talk to another dealer and explain what the car is doing. Leave out the part about Simpletons refusing to repair under warranty and just see what the other dealer says. Also - what do you mean by "dust imprint on the door"?

Basically if someone were to track there car they would have a vinly # on the drivers door. If the car wasnt washed and the sticker removed, it would show a clean section. I swear. ..... |

Ah, now it makes sense - but it still doesn't prove jack about whether it was non-competitive or competitive. Hell, you could have had a magnetic advertisement stuck on there for all they know. But still, maybe wash the car before you take it to the next dealer, or hit it with quick detailer and a microfiber

Think I saw your video about this on YouTube. Here’s the thing, I think throw out bearings are considered a wear item so it may be difficult to get it replaced (and I’ll add replaced a second time) under warranty regardless of whether or not you tracked the car. Now I do agree that yours seems to be failing because there is something causing it to fail versus failing from wear. I could be wrong about this but I think our cars use the same reservoir for the brake and clutch fluid. Maybe try to see first if you have a leak following the brake fluid line that goes to your trans or any of the brakes. If you find something than I think you have a case that something failed causing your first and second throw out bearings to fail and GM failed to fix it the first time.

Service manager primarily. I have talked about this with their manager previously and the time line goes back and fourth. Going to call service manager today to discuss this more. |
