Finding its limits...or mine 😜
I did my second track event at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s ROVAL course this past weekend. I did seven out of eight 15 minute sessions and finally used the PDR for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed myself running in the Intermediate group, did some passing (and others passed me too 😊. Aside from the GM CAI for a mild performance adder, I managed consistent 1:40 laps. In the final session, I pushed a little too far 😉 It was my fault as the car was managing this speed just fine in the previous six sessions; I pinched the corner. Live and learn. I have yet to find this car’s limits but I’m getting close I think. I’d like to share the PDR video snipit here with you all but it’s not allowing me to load it. However, you can view it by checking out my Instagram @hypr1le.

I believe I met you at this event. If you are the person I think you are, I was there with my wife and daughter asking you questions about setting the car up for the track and admiring your add-ons and detail work under the hood. The interior and exterior had some nice touches as well!
If you are not the guy I met last Saturday....well, nice to meet you now!

That was the one corner I had nightmares on! I always took it easy getting up on the banking, and sacrificed top speed...but I didn't have to change underwear
Nice save! |

LOL!!! I found out why. Thanks! I may not have many HPDE driving events under my belt, yet, but I’m ambitious. 21 years law enforcement training and experience has helped, but this is my hobby and stress outlet. Just signed up for another HPDE event (Just Track It @ Atlanta Motorsports Park) at the end of this month with at least another 4 for the remainder of the year, tire budget willing ;-)

Do I sense sarcasm? There is close, at, or beyond a driver’s limits and/or a car’s limits. For me, control and safe is important and that can be enjoyed. Beyond 100% of either one is loss of control and likely a crash. You see, I investigate serious and fatal crashes and regrettably have to deliver death notifications. So, I know first hand how bad it can be beyond 100% of either a driver’s or car’s capabilities. Even the best cars in the hands of the most-skilled driver’s can and do crash when either goes beyond 100%. For hobby racing, whatever that may be, close is good; beyond is bad, especially at high speeds. Personally, it is my intention to reach but not exceed 9/10ths. On a road course, right now I think I’m about 7 to 8/10ths as I am still learning about this car’s limits and mine with it. So, yes, close, but not yet at the 9/10ths I’d like to be. Have fun and stay safe! ;-).

Question: What did you have on the rear quarters and rockers in those pictures? I assume that's to protect against rocks...

I did put blue painter’s tape on the rockers to protect against chips at NCM. I think I was the only one that did. My rockers are already protected by Xpel but only up to the seam with the quarter panel. However, I did not apply tape at Charlotte and as a result did get some marks above that same seam. The ZL1Addons rock guards, Xpel, and C7 Carbon side skirts all help considerably to mitigate the chips but it can still be a risk for unprotected areas. It’s going to happen on the track sooner or later.

Thanks Alex! The side skirts are by C7 Carbon. As for the spin, I was more concerned about messing up the guys behind me. So, I pulled down on the apron, let the others go by, and then got back into it for the remainder of that session. But, to be honest, I dialed it back through that same corner in the subsequent laps.
