Stock Headlights
I own a 2SS, and I'm wanting to buy a set of OEM headlights for it. I'm going to do the Oracle color-shift mod to them, and swap those out and keep my stock headlights should I go backward at a later date...
I've researched the part, and all I can find is two different assemblies. Not 100% on this, but it appears there is an HID and non-HID version. If this is true, how do I find out what I have? Anyone have any experience with these lights, or doing the color-shift mod from Oracle? Anyone ever do the same thing I am doing: salvaging your stock lights, and modding a new pair? Thanks...

Someone can correct me but I believe HID are part of the RS package and all SS include the RS package. So you will want to get the HID assembly. Non SS cars can add HID by purchasing the RS package.
Here is a thread that talks some more about HID vs Halogen http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=447437 |

Wolvie70 is correct, all SS models have the HID version.

Converted the front of my 83 el camino last year from a 2010 Camaro nose to a 2016 as seen on flicker link. I was in the process of making my own headlights due to cost when I found out gen5diy.com (on this site) had a few dozen in stock. Appear to be from the same mfg as oem ( HID/DRL) , were complete assemblies, & were a little over $ 1k for the pair including some wiring adapters for both the headlights & factory running lights.
Dealing with them was problem free & helped me out big time. |
