Brake fluid change assistance

I am the happy owner of a 2019 ZL1 1LE A10. I have a track day coming up at Thunderhill in Willows, CA in September. I have read strong recommendations to replace the brake fluid with Castrol SRF or similar before tracking.

I did not grow up working on cars and have only done simple things on my own vehicles (oil, transmission fluid/filter, minor repairs and upgrades [air intakes], etc) though I am fairly mechanically inclined (detailed gunsmithing-type work, operating my automated reloading presses, etc) but don't have knowledge/experience working on cars. I have equipment to lift the car.

Is there a good youtube for the process to bleed/replace the brake fluid on a 6th generation Camaro, preferably a ZL1 or ZLE? I have a cheap vacuum gun device for bleeding.

Thank you in advance.

I highly recommend Castrol SRF. It has never let me down on the track. I would recommend that you take it to a dealership with the Castrol in hand and let them change it. The problem "as I understand it" you cant get the fluid out of the ABS modules. I am sure others could provide better insight and suggestions, but for me it was/is well worth the $100 I spend to have them do it!

+1 on the SRF

I bought my own fluid and had the dealer do it for me. They only charged me like $100 if I provided my own fluid. In the future once I have a garage, I'll buy the diag tool and do it myself.

Thank you for the responses. It sounds like it is best to have the dealer (or an experienced, competent, performance shop) do the fluid change.

You can do it yourself with the Motive Power bleeder or similar vacuum/pressure pump and a catch bottle.

Dealer did mine. I took 3 bottles and had half of one left over. I used the Castrol SRF.

I think it was like $120.

The mechanic showed me how to do it and the sequence in which to do it as well. They also did the oil differential and trans during that visit.

I gave the mechanic a 20 as a tip and said "make it nice." LOL

I feel like my local dealer would laugh at me if I went to them with that. I need to make friends with one nearby.

This is your first track day in a new high powered car - go with peace of mind and have the dealer do it. Also, along with the brake fluid change (SRF or Motul) if you haven't already done this, do the track oil change, do the differential fluid change and get the track alignment.

Have fun at the track day! The car is a blast.

Thank you.

Already taken care of or will take care of those. (had the dealer do the first oil since it was included; I did the rear diff and will do the second oil change at about 2K myself)

Also, my first track day is with an organization and I will have an instructor...SAFETY! (and learning).

Just FYI the free dealership oil change probably did not use the 15w50 oil required for tracking the zl1 1le unless you specifically requested it.

dont need the 15/50 for the track. That is why GM switched to the 0/40. It is good for both track and street.

The 2019 1LE manual states to go to 15W-50 on the ZL1 1LE for track events. However, since it is OP's first track day, I doubt that OP will push the car enough to warrant the change to 15W-50.
