Apps
Afternoon,
Need some help. I have a MY19, which I understand was a change to the infotainment center. So the question is for those who own a MY19 or anyone that can help. I didnt want to be the one, asking for help and ignoring the owners manual. I went through the manual, the infotainment manual and the Chevrolet App and I cant seem to find what I am looking for. So here is the issue. As we all know, the Camaro doesnt have HomeLink. I just had a new Garage Door Opener installed which is Wi-Fi capable and can be accessed/controlled via an App. I wanted to download the App onto the car under the "my apps" on the Infotainment Center, but I cant seem to find how to do that. 1. Can you do that? 2. If you can, does it require the OnStar to be active? 3. If you can, and it doesn't require OnStar, can someone walk me through the process. I know via Apple CarPlay I can see some limited Apps which are on my phone, which doesn't include the garage app. Even if it did, I wanted the garage app on the car, in case I didn't have my phone with me in the car. Thanks in advance, Tony |

This doesn’t really answer your question but I used one of the three programmable buttons near the mirror for my garage door.

You can hook up a high beam intercept so you can flick the high beams to open/close the garage door.

I know you said you don't want to rely on your phone, but with iOS 13, Carplay will let you open/close your garage door - if your garage door opener works with Apple Homekit. The garage door should be a location aware button that will show up on the home screen.

Thanks, don't have IOS 13 on my iPhone. It says it is up to date with 12.3.1.

I believe the only APPs you can get for the car are the ones GM offers which is a very small selection. Just a handful I think.

What I have discovered in my research is, in order to download apps onto the car you need a data plan, which means Onstar, due to the fact Onstar controls the Hotspot and ATT provides the wireless service. I spoke to ATT about transferring the car's hotspot to my ATT wireless account, but they refer me to Onstar. I haven't talk to them as of yet.
The apple carplay has a very small number of apps that are compatible. If you go to Apple Carplay website it provides a list of them, which numbers about 15. So I am stuck with using the MyQ app, which controls the garage opener for now. I really can't see me leaving the house without my phone anyway, so this works just as well. There is suppose to be a big carplay compatibility upgrade with IOS 13, whenever that comes out! |
