the darkened tail lights being available is all that is holding me up from doing some serious negotiations on purchase. will be painting the tail panel around the tail lights satin black like the white car with black stripes pictured above.

That's not necessarily true. They have to illuminate red and the vehicle needs a red reflector. They don't have to be one in the same. I don't see why they couldn't legally show now unlimited red because the vehicle has red reflectors near the diffuser

If GM is making/selling the part, you can rest assured it's DOT approved to be legal in all 50 states.

You guys worried about your local yocal police can rest assured they can't do a thing to you.

Correct. I think the big question is what will the final product actually look like.

Here's a question:

What happens if GM can't get them to be legal in all 50 states?

Does GM just cancel the part all together or just modify it to where it will be legal in all 50 states?

They will cancel it.

Your question is moot. Parts developed and sold from all manufacturers for production passenger cars are 50 state DOT legal.

So if they are selling the part, the part is 100% legal in all states.

Honestly though I am not sure why you are so worried. This mod can be done for a fraction of the cost of what GM will charge for this.

And that's where you have to be careful if the part is DOT 50 state legal. Aftermarket parts aren't always are. That's where people get in trouble with their local yocal police.

OEM parts are assured to be legal.
