OP, Be aware that polarized sunglasses can reduce or eliminate the lights, and a lot of the HUD. If that’s important, or if your helmet visor is tinted, you may want to test before buying a different car

Yes.
Polarized sunglasses make my HUD appear dim and monochromatic green.
I can crank up the intensity, but the various colors all turn '90's HUD green.

Personally I give it a little bit of time after the shift light flashes. It's a very short amount of time(maybe 0.2 seconds) but that usually puts me right at 6500 RPM.
I just mentioned PDR since I was able to use it to confirm that my shifts at those targets were roughly optimal while at WOT.

On the 4th to 5th shift you will be several seconds too early using the shift lights but that doesn't apply to the quarter mile drag strip.
