PDR Beef

Here is the scenario;

1. Start recording from the car. (the counter starts so I know its recording)
2. Park car and simply turn off car (assuming it recorded the session?)

My beef is this. When I attempted to play back the file on my home computer I noticed right away I was in trouble as the file showed up like this

180424_152613_00017_-recording.mp4 and it was a RAW file. It would not open.

The proper format when it actually works should show this;

170908_210250_00001_ MPF file
170908_210250_00001_ PNG file

Half the time I forget to click the PDR button and press stop recording as I simply just turn off the car. Has anyone else experienced this? I tried playing the RAW file using VLC Media player but with no luck.

Thoughts? I had a great run I wanted to watch back and now it's F*ked!!!

Hilarious...looks like I got the subject line right BUT I still want to know if anyone else has experienced this issue? Btw I reformatted the SD card and that usually helps but still annoying.

I think you might be pulling the card too soon. It should complete normally, but it takes several seconds to complete after you turn off the ignition. Unfortunately, there's no indicator light to tell us when it's finished.

Let me rephrase... I don't recall if turning off the ignition causes it to stop recording, or if it's after the door is opened with the ignition off, but the idea is the same. Just give it 10 seconds or so before pulling the card and I think it should be fine.

When I first got my car I had this problem too.

Hmmmmmm makes sense and yes when I turned off the car I am pretty sure I went right for the SD card to eject. I am pretty sure that’s the problem. Cheers!!!

Are you using the Cosworth toolbox to view the video on your PC?

Yes, I had mine do the exact same thing. I can’t delete the file, as well.

If you're getting it as a raw file, the PDR is still writing to the SD card when you are ejecting it. Just make sure the car is turned off, and open the drivers door to power off all interior electronics, that should do the trick

Hmmmm I will give it a try but already reformatted the SD card BUT saved the RAW file.

I am also using the Cosworth toolbox.

Yeah, but you still have to give it a few seconds. The video is buffered to the card and cleanup activities such as converting the raw file to a mp4, creating a png thumbnail, etc. have to take place. Even though the power appears to be cut to the PDR it isn't. It keeps power at least long enough to finish writing to the card.

Thanks everyone. Now moving forward I won't be so quick to eject. Damn I had nice 200 km/per hour burst I wanted to play back...I am in CANADA.

Good info... as I'm usually a week or two before I eject...
