ZL1 or ZL1 1LE

I'm close to buying and would like to get your take.

Would you buy a ZL1 1LE or a plain ZL1 and add-on parts to bring it up to 1LE performance?

Thoughts?

If you want the 1le just buy it. It's factory built, ready to go and has a full warranty.

If you plan to daily it or drive it on the street regularly I would say go with regular ZL1, the 1LE will be like the old Z/28 where it's not a very comfortable daily. But if you are hard core go for it!

1st off welcome to the forum..

I'm guessing you are going with a manual trans. Next question would be do you plan to hit the track or how will you drive the car. Just weekends or daily.

1LE is track focused with no rubber bushings and stiff suspension, but an awesome track beast.

There is no way you could only spend $7500 out of your own pocket on a ZL1 and "bring it up to 1LE performance"....

Good luck however you decide.

This is basically the old ZL1 vs. Z/28 agreement...

If possible, wait a month or so and get input from Car Magazines and more importantly the first owners.

I chose the ZL1 1LE because I will extensively track (track as in road race style HPDE and TT) the car...if I didn't I would probably choose the regular ZL1 for its superior ride qualities.

Feedback from folks on how it rides will be useful to you especially if the car will see daily use. Example: I have a 2014 1LE that I put Z/28 DSSV dampers/springs on. The change in ride was noticeable. I daily drive the car and if I wasn't tracking it I would put the 1LE springs/shocks back on. On track, the Z/28 setup is well worth it to me.

Just in 2 areas alone are the Multimatic DSSV®; plus they allow for wider tires for more grip that you cannot get on the ZL1.

PS. Since I have a truck I drive 60% of the time or whenever it rains, I would have gotten the ZL1 1LE in a heartbeat. So get it if you even can. They are only going to make so many.

Had the same question and researched multimatic ride etc. as much as possible. In the end I am glad I went with the regular ZL1 because the ride on it even in Tour mode is not the most comfortable on the rutted and potholed roads here in and around town (New England)... I have barely tried track suspension setting a couple of times on smooth highway ... so likely the ZL-1LE as a pseudo daily driver may have been too jarring and relegated to being less driven (as happened to my over stiff Focus RS, which I eventually traded in for ZL1)...

..."plain" ZL1...too funny...

It really comes down to which suspension do you want...as others have said many times the 1LE suspension is just going to be alot stiffer, so depending on where you intend to drive your ZL1(/1LE) will probably dictate which version you buy. Outside of the suspension, you can pretty much buy everything else to make it "look" like a 1LE, but if you want that suspension (and have pretty smooth roads all around you) then you should just buy the 1LE. I wanted a 1LE, but it is not for me...I live in pot-hole-land, where construction zones/uneven pavement are the norm and I just don't want to suffer each and every day. How many Z28's do I see driving around town here?...1(there will always be one..."that guy" haha)....how many do I see at the track? dozens and dozens...lol. DSSV needs smooth roads...

Track often and want to spend an extra $10k go with the 1LE. More of a daily driver that still puts up better 350r performance numbers, go with the standard ZL1.

Easy, which one is gonna make you feel like "darn, I wish I would have gotten the (placeholder for zl1 or zl1 1le) instead" after a few months. Everyone has provided excellent considerations here that I thought of. I would worry less about the potential negatives of either car and focus on which one you think would make you happier. My thoughts are if you're actually considering a 1LE over a "plain-ole ZL1", then the 1LE is the obvious choice (assuming the additional money is not an issue).
