Well, they say that because they are. Park one next to a '69 and you will see lots of similarities in shape and design and layout.

Park a 4th gen next to a '69, then you will see zero resemblance.

I will, every chance I get. Unfortunately, I have very little contact with the folks that came up with that label. This forum is the biggest platform I have to work with.

If something is 'retro', then its 'cool because its kinda old'; meanwhile modern is practically synonymous with 'current'. Pretty much by definition, those two words cannot be used simultaneously to describe the same thing.

The thing is, I have no patience for BS marketing terminology like 'modern retro'. If I know that the thing they're saying is BS, I figure that they believe they only idiots will want what they're selling. If I also happened to want the product despite their marketing BS, I can only conclude that they think I must be an idiot too. And I don't like that.

I have no issues with the idea of doing a modern interpretation of something old. Its calling it 'modern retro' that I take issue with. Going with 'inspired by a classic' or something similar that actually makes linguistic sense and is more descriptive of what was done is far better than a pair of words with a higher buzzword coefficient.

*edit*

also, one last thing: it takes 10 to 20 years before something can become retro. Having a few similarities with something decades old does not make it retro. If its new, its new.

I was going to buy a '14 model until I saw the 'updated' refresh at the NY Auto show. Taillights are still hideous.

I warmed up to the LED taillights. The chrome strip up front, not so much.

Even GM avoided calling the 5th gen a retro design.

Seriously though, 7th gen needs to be a departure from the whole "inspired by 1st gen" design. It's gotten really old, really fast.

That is incorrect actually, and as you know the English language doesn't always follow form. Many times something older will be taken, and updated. That is common practice, and just how it is. You may not like it, or agree, but it is how it is. Retro-modern is in fact a term.

It's not "BS marketing" if it is something someone wants. Just because it is not to your taste doesn't mean it is crap. There is plenty of stuff I don't like or agree with, but I am well aware that there may be countless others who like it and don't agree with me.

I think you are getting to in depth with the differences here. "Inspired by" would more so mean a small part, or a styling element was borrowed. Or just that something made you make or do something, that may have no inherent similarities to it. Like "I was inspired by Babe Ruth to hit that home run", or " I was inspired by Dali as a kid and he got me into making this art"...

If anything, I would say at least 20 years to become retro. But retro could mean different things to different people too remember.

I agree, I'd like to see the 7th gen be at least inspired by the 2nd gen.

Sorry, but no way. The 2nd gen is by far the worst looking of the Camaros.

Every Generation has their fans, myself I never cared for the 3rd gens or 4th gens.
So generally looks are subjective.

Indeed, because I think the 7th gen needs to go back to the more futuristic design of the 4th gen.

The gen2 F-body was by far the most successful generation and the 70 Z28 is gorgeous. I also like the very late gen3 with the F40 type spoiler on the rear.

I also felt the rear hatch made gen3 and gen4 very functional as a driver. In the S P100D vs RS7 head to head, they commented the sedans are dead and hatch rear is in. Made me wonder if a Vette type hatch would be a winner for gen7

Only because they made it like over 12 years...

I do like the early 2nd gens a lot, once the big bumpers went on, that was it...
