Charging system working properly?
Never paid much attention to it until today when I noticed on the Aeroforce gauge that my volts were at 11.5 cruising down the hwy. Once I slowed the alternator kicked on for a second or two, but then stopped and the rest of the trip it never climbed past 12v. Just went for another test ride and all seemed well at first with the alternator bringing the system up to 14v and holding it there for 2-3 minutes of driving....then it dropped down to the mid 11's again and didn't fluctuate for another 15 minutes. Stop, restart, volts go back up to 14 for a minute or two then back down to 11.5 where they stay. Is this normal operation for the smart charging system? 11.5 seems awful low but it never drops below that regardless of the load on the system.

These cars have adaptive charging so it varies from 12 to 14 alot.

Seems normal to me because my ZL1 and old 2016 2SS did the same as yours. Don’t think you have any issue but keep a check on it if it eases your mind.

I think your situation is normal. I would not trust the voltage display to judge battery health.
Check the resting voltage on the battery in the trunk or use the terminals under the hood. If your DVM reads in the 11's you got trouble. 12.6 is the target. |
