After 3 months the squeaky noise is back, not sure if has to do with the bipolar florida weather from cold to hot to cold again in a matter of days, but the squeak when switching between v4 to v8 is back. Any suggestions? My car has a couple of thousand miles left before the warranty is up. They lubricated the AFV flap and it worked, but even the GM rep said that it wasn’t a long term solution, that was 3 months ago.

Honestly, that's really the only fix. You can lube them yourself. It takes a Jack or long arms, but its doable. 3 months isn't to terrible for a quick spray.

The only other way to fix it is tune out the AFM, which can void warranty, or replace the entire exhaust with a new one, but it will likely come back.

Would (ironically) adding an aftermarket exhaust like say the Borla exhaust fix the issue?

It depends on what's actually in the exhaust. If it's got npp and afm, it's probably gonna squeak.

Your mileage may vary.

AFM is one of those technologies nobody asked for, yet all received as a "free gift" (even manual cars have the AFM lifters in the engine).

I would consider a Range device that disables it without voiding the warranty, since it plugs into the OBD-II port, then getting it tuned out altogether, say, once your warranty expires. This would also verify that one or both of the AFM valves was the source of the squeaking noise.

I went to the dealer for them to lubricate the valve but they couldn’t replicate the problem even though I told them specifically what it was... and it’s in their notes from my last service WITH the TSB...

So they weren’t able to do anything to the exhaust.

I only have an AFM, no NPP.

AutoPenalti, Did you ever get this resolved? I have it on my 2017 SS also. Started about 6 months ago. Of course no Chevy dealership can hear it. I have 36K miles on it and of out of warranty of course.

I have a 2016 1ss I have had the same problem since owning the car. But it will randomly stop for a few months then pop back up. I currently have 36k miles on the car and the noise from my opinion has not affected the performance. I have took it to the dealership on numerous occasions with no real resolution besides them blaming the noise on my after market air filter. To highlight it’s been a week I have the noise again have a new air filter it’s definitely not the cause of the noise. I’ve noticed the issues happen when shifting up from v4 to v8 and when shutting off the vehicle the noise does not happen on any other occasions. The noise is annoying it is obnoxious it is loud it does make people look at you like your poor and the cars about to break buuut at this point I don’t think it negatively affects the vehicle in any way. But it shouldn’t be this way regardless!

I have finally found a solution it is within service bulletin number 16-NA-003 it’s and easy fix and just requires you to lube up the valve. If the link doesn’t work just message me!
