New Order No Deposit or License Needed?

Hello all!

It sure is nice to make a post in these forums again!

I bought a 2016 new over 5 years ago and 10 months later lost it to hurricane Harvey. I made this post below when I first got the car, sadly it might be a boat now.

I finally decided it's time to get another Camaro so I contacted a buddy of mine who works at a Chevy dealership south of Houston. I put the order in the day before my 41st birthday on 12/11/21. My friend contacted me a few days ago and told me he changed jobs to a different dealership, and it's Nissan. My order is now being handled by someone else.

I did contact this other person at the dealership and he seems fine but is there any piece of mind if I go in and put down a deposit or have them scan my drivers license? Does putting down money help insure they will contact you when it comes in? Sorry for all the paranoia and questions, just very excited to get out of this boring 17 CX-5 with check engine light under 60k mileage pos.

I know dealerships are marking things over MSRP and probably wouldn't care too much if I didn't show up is what I am trying to avoid.

I think it varies by dealership. When I ordered my car, they didn't ask for any deposit and didn't scan my license either. Of course, I have a pretty close relationship with this dealer (worked there from 2004 - 2015, and this will be our 10th car purchased from them), so they know I'm good for it.

And as you said, they could probably turn around and sell it without too much issue if I did happen to back out of the deal, and probably for more than what they're selling it to me for.

I put down $500 when I ordered, but no other details. I was also a customer prior to the order though.

As long as they provide you an order number and the workbench order form so you can validate the build/options I probably wouldn't worry. Especially if your friend referred you to this salesman.

I needed neither deposit or license on my order. They told me on the phone essentially - "if you don't buy it someone else will".

Thanks for all the feedback. I did receive an order number and a breakdown of all items picked. This is my first time ordering a car, want to get everything right.
