Watch the dealer markups............. - Page 2

wanna see some silly markups, go visit any stg auto groups in LA valley.
we tried to buy a 2020 from them earlier this year. all their vehicles have added stuff totaling 2k on this car and higher on others.
the vehicle we looked at had a $1200 "alarm system and gps tracking" installed, $500 window tint and $300 3m door edge guards. I passed on the car. sales manager called me back and I told him I'd take the car if he removed the gps and gave us the other 2 items for $250(cost of window tint here) and he said a grand was final answer. I hung up.

the dealership we bought from (huntington beach mazda) told us that better than half the dealers in the LA valley have crap like this added on.

Yea that 3M door protection really messed me up too. I can order that off amazon for 12 bucks maybe less and put that on myself. Whatever they smoking I don't want none of that.

This one is classic…it was exactly what I was looking for. I wouldn’t pay a penny over MSRP.

I'm really hoping that the dealer I'm working with isn't going to try to install anything without my knowledge. He claims he's going to leave everything including the transport tape on the vehicle after I told him that I don't even want it washed. We'll see.

I was curious and called a Cincinnati area dealer that had a Rapid Blue LT1 6M in stock. He acted like he was doing me a favor and "only" adding a $5K markup. He told me they were marking up the C8's for $20K so I was getting a deal. Hung up on him.

That's how my experience was with Bill Pierre or whatever up in Seattle.

Their 10K markup is now $2K on their ZL1.

Seattle dealers suck, I bought my 2010 SS at Titus Will Chevy in Lakewood/Parkland WA. Way before this craziness though. When you actually got invoice pricing on cars... the good ole days...

I felt kind of cheated that my local dealer offered me $500 below MSRP due to having worked there for 11 years, and also buying something like 9 or 10 cars from them since 2005. I understood that was the market, but I wasn't thrilled with it.

Seeing some of these prices though makes me feel like I hit the lottery!

Not sure where you ordered yours, but I did the same thing with Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine and they did NOTHING to the car just as I asked. They told me when I was placing the order they add a "North Texas" package to everything (tint and nitrogen in the tires), and I told them I didn't want it and was opting out. They didn't try to push it on me after that at all.

And when I picked it up, they didn't wash it or do anything else - no dealer emblems/stickers, left the plastic protector on the HUD projector, didn't even install the air deflectors under the front bumper. I asked for it, I got it...but in hindsight, I would have preferred they put the deflectors on it and the covers on the rear suspension arms.

Long story short - there are good dealers out there that do what the customer wants.

Good to know, now if they can just give me fair market value for my SS Sedan, I'll be happy to write them a good review on Yelp/Google/Etc...

Bob Grimm Chevrolet has a nicely spec'ed out ZL1 MSRP'd @ $76k, when I clicked inquire about purchase, screen changed to $81k due to dealer markup

Just ignore 'em. They want to be greedy, let 'em. It can rot on the lot for a little while for a few bucks more.
