Alright, that's fair. I'll give you that one.

But I shiver at the thought of asking a dealer to do something they may never have done before.

One of the issues could be parts availability. GM has left out integral components on MANY of their vehicles for things like AFM and Stop/Start technology for the engines. While it is perfectly feasible that these could be added later, they will not be able to be retrofitted. GM has stated this publicly and "comp'ed" the purchaser with a paltry $50 credit (to offset a couple of thousand dollars in fuel costs) at the time of delivery.

The way that GM can control this would be through parts availability. In other words, they simply will not offer the modules as a "spare part" that can be ordered and paid for and any parts orders from a dealership would need to provide the VIN of the vehicle AND return of the defective part.

I would have loved to have purchased a new truck/SUV over the last year or so, and am ready to do so now. The fact that GM offers no means to get "all of the paid-for features" in a vehicle at the time of delivery is why I haven't done it and will likely end up leaving the brand.

WRT the heated wheel - I thought I read that they won't replace the wheel but will rather actually install the module the controls it. The wheel will have the heating element in it from the factory, it just won't work.
