Price is Right?
So there is a 2017 2SS Camaro with 15K miles on it at one of my local dealers, which has pretty much every feature (automatic, Sunroof, etc.) with the exception of MRC but I don't care much for that. It's selling for 41K at the moment, realistically how much could I negotiate the price to go lower?

Dealer with the state of the used market, prices are way up, really has no reason at all to negotiate a lower price. Myself I'd offer some where a 1K lower or something like that but there's really no reason to sell under MSRP on new cars or haggle on used. How much of a hard ass either party wants to be is key.

I think even in todays market that one is a bit high. It’s a 5 year old car. Personally I wouldn’t pay 40k+ for any 5 year old SS even if it had zero miles.

Too much imo. It's a 5 year old car now, for roughly $6k-$8k less than a brand new 2022. I would never buy it. If the market gets back to normal(and it will), the value of that car is going to tank compared to what you own it for.

As mentioned, buy new for $6-8k more, get full warranty and first to fart in the seat. You get the newer tech, A10, updated infotainment, rear view mirror camera on 2SS, etc.

Its indeed to much for that car but the question was could he get it down and that answer is probably not. It's not a buyers market but you never know.

I personally don't like buying certain vehicles used, performance vehicles being one such type. I always figure that the previous owner drove it like he/she stole it, and I figure it may have been through the ringer. I'd rather pay a little markup and just make sure that I get something that hasn't been driven hard and put away wet. How much more would a new Camaro SS built like you want cost?

Everyone else is nailing it, IMHO. Just buy a new 2SS (Im assuming it isnt a 1LE, of course) for not that much more...
Lots of tech differences between 2022 and 2017.

As others have noted...you'd be insane to pay $41k for a 2017 2ss. Offer them 36k if you really love it, but a brandy new 2022 2ss is probably 46k.

Thanks for the replies everyone, many of you say just to get the newer ones, I would and could but I really don't like the exterior style of the car (headlights, taillights, hood vents). The ones that I like is the 2016-2018 models only.
Back in 2019, I had the chance to buy a 2018 model brand new at 37K MSRP. It could have been lower cause the sales guy asked what price point would I like. I regret it soo much, hell, just last year I remember seeing a similar used one going for 33K listing price in Jan. Now they are pretty much at an all time high but I'm just worried its just going to get worse and the possibility that the Camaro will just die off. Hence why I still want to get this now before it might be to late. |
