HOW DID YOU SIPHON THE GAS OUT OF YOUR TANK

Hey Guys,

I have a full tank of fuel and have to replace the low side fuel pump. I tried to snake a 1/4" vinyl hose down the filler tube - didn't work. I tried a 3/8" black fuel line and couldn't get it down the tube. Am I missing something here, or do I have to lower the tank a little and take it from the top or maybe loosen the filler connection and go in there?

Thanks

Try placing the plastic funnel that comes with the car (in trunk) into gas fill tube to open the anti-siphon valve and then insert a small diameter hose through it?

This. You have to use the funnel to open that valve or its a no go.

You can disconnect the fuel line, then command the lpfp on using hp tuners to pump the gas out. (Unless the pump is bad) I’m not sure your going to be able to get a hose into the tank easily.

This.

And - there are two tanks that straddle the drivetrain, so if the fuel is high enough, you might not be able to drain enough with a hose out of that side.

Hey fellas,

Thanks for the advice. I will have to do the HP Tuner method. I can easily get the hose past the little metal gate and down the tube about 18 inches, but then it just stops like there is some sort of obstruction or maybe there are too many bends - who knows?

Thanks, again.

Is it fairly straight forward in HP Tuners to command the LPFP to run? I haven't gotten into the program to change things. Any advice would be appreciated.

I believe that the fuel filler tube has a device to prevent fuel leaking out of the tank in the event that the car rolls over in an accident. That also prevents you from siphoning gas from the tank.

Under controls and special functions/fuel in the scanner. You can command the pump on/off.

How many fuel pump does the ZL1 have? How did you determine your fuel pump was bad?

There is a high side and low side fuel pump in the ZL1 Camaro. The high side is under the supercharger and feeds the high pressure fuel rails and it runs off cam. The low side fuel pump is in the gas tank and feeds the high side pump. It is a stand alone pump and runs off an electrical circuit.

My car started having a random misfire issue from no apparent cause. Right at 3500 rpm (under load) the car would fall on its face. Under easy throttle, it would run fine. So, I changed the plugs and wires. It seemed to correct it a little, but still had a misfire under load. I hooked up HP Tuners to it and took it for a drive.

Under load, the fuel pressure would drop crazy low, high and low side. Fuel rail pressure dropped below 1000lbs. I am running e60. I had about half a tank. So, I filled it up with premium and brought the e content down to e33. Took it for another run. Low side dropped like a rock, but managed to supply the high side and rail pressure stayed much higher.

I had Ted at Jannetty Racing take a look at the logs and he says swap out the low side fuel pump. Fun Fun Fun.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know about the dual fuel pump.
