A/C Off Due to High Engine Temperature
I searched the Subject on this forum but no-one was able to answer it clearly.
I recently flushed the cooling fluid and changed original T-stat to a Mishimoto 160. plus replaced the coolant hoses. I got the P0128 - A/C Off Due to High Engine Temp code while the Banks is reporting around 150-160 degree after driving for like 15 minutes. I got the Hp tuner can I not set a different temps in there? I can't find it in HPMVIP3 Tuner where you set the Mechanical T-stat. Thanks guys. |

I may be wrong on this, I'm not a tune guy or have a tuner, but I don't think you can "change" anything for the t-stat operation, only the fan on and off and percentage of run settings at any given temp setting of your t-stat. I'm sure someone else who tunes their Camaro will chime in.

I looked @ my tune & the P0128 is set for MIL on 2nd error. Just a thought.

Sounds like you have air in your system. One thing I have done for years is drill a 1/16 hole in the thermostat if it doesn't have a jiggle ball to help release the air.

I let the car burp the hell out of it for some time when I flushed it. I will check out your hack on drilling a hole. |

So after searching through HP Forum I found this, I'm just not sure if I want to go that route.
I guess in an earlier version of HP there was a place where you could set the Mechanical T-Stat to a certain degrees, on MVPI3 I wasn't be able to find it. Pic below. Another guy did this. "When I installed my 160 thermo I disabled P0117 and P0128 or otherwise the ECM would turn off my A/C and the warm up bar would fully turn on. It would normally take a few on/off key cycles, but it would come back, disabling the codes fixed the issue. Also changed my "Desired %" axis down from 192 to 170. My car on the highway runs at 163-165 I also changed "Desired ECT" to something acceptable" |

I guess I will go with a different t-sat like the 180 by MotoRad, should get me close to where I was and don't have to mess with ECM

I am running 160 from Summit & have had no issues. I recall reading somewhere that some people had problems with the Mishimoto units as well.

Same here. I run this t-stat from Summit Racing per acammers advice as I believe he said at one time his Mishimoto unit failed too. I've so far not had any issues either.

Ah yes Wayne, it was Andrew that suggested the Summit over the Mishimoto to me.

neighbors camaro had the fans stuck on high and no ac when the thermostat failed open. car wasn't overheating at all but the computer took the fact that the temp wasn't going high enough as overheating if that makes any sense at all. replacing it with a new stock themo fixed it.
