Driving skinnies to the track long distance?

Hey guys, currently I have some Hoosier 28x4.5x18 Bias-Ply skinnies I swap out after driving to the track 2.5hrs about 150miles. They are not DOT tires and specifically say not for highway use. I refuse to drive them to the track especially that distance.
What do you think about the ET Street Fronts 28x6x18 instead so I can drive them to the track? I'll be giving up 6lbs per tire but it would be worth it to me if they were ok to drive to the track with them on already.
Lemme know what ya think thanks!

I’m sure the ET Street fronts would be fine if you just cruise with them. Avoid the urge to go 95 MPH the whole way and maybe skip the 1.0 G exit ramp cornering…

LMAO definitely no corner cutting with those and 95mph the whole way is asking for it. Maybe punch it a few times, not around corners of course

I was originally thinking of going with the sportsman s/r they are rated @1650lb per tire but they are 25lbs!
The ET street front is rated @1140lbs per tire and 18lbs which would be the best compromise for the Hoosier at 12lbs. Hoosier has no load/lbs rating that I can find.

It's just a PITA to haul all the stuff and swap them out at the track.

Good Luck. I'm about to go figure out how to get my 18x12 autox wheels in the car. 2 will probably go on a hitch-mounted rack.

I have been running the 28x6 MT Sportsman S/R as my front runners for a while now. Track nicely and no drama. Have not slowed me down too much…

Dude, first time I went up I had the 2 - 17x10 wheels with 305x45x17s on the rear seats. The two skinnies in the trunk with the jack and all the other shit. I just bought this car couple months ago and had no idea of the poor visibility. With those 17x10s back there it was

I don’t drive the car on the street much with my drag pack on. Street use typically means my OEM 1LE wheels (20x10/20x11) with Toyo R888R 315/30/20 out back. But I put maybe 1500-2000 miles on a year…even less these days lol.

My drag pack consists of 18” front runners and out back I run 325/50/15 ET Street R with my recent 15” conversion. I used to run the 17’s you listed and they worked great until 900-950 WHP. Still getting my short game figured out with the new 15’s but hoping to bag my first 8 by the end of the year.

Only managed a best of 11.9 @ 118. I have a vid of the run in a thread in this section if you care to watch it.

Easy. I already had the hitch and the rack is an old bike rack I removed the bike-specific parts from and just left the crossbars.

You could use any hitch-mount luggage rack though.

My hitch is Curt, same one sold as an accessory via GM, but not sure it's the best option. ~100 lb max weight, so the 2 wheels are about all it can carry. .

I have driven the M/T Sportsman SR skinnies (6" width) on the street, not 2.5 hours though, but around an hour each way. IMO they were fine just going to the track and back, but of course, I took it easy in the corners. I knew that the overall handling/stopping of the car was compromised by the skinnies, and treated it as such.

The possible issue that I see with the ET Street Front for driving to/from the track for 2.5 hrs each way is the lack of real tread. The ET-R which you have for the rear has the same problem (only straight grooves, no exit cuts). I had that same exact tire (305/45-17 ET-R) and I got away with it once when the rain stopped and the roads were only damp for the drive home. However on a later trip to the strip, it ended up raining for real after the first run, and continued raining, and the ET-R was just horrible on the way home. I ended up swapping to the S/S tire, because it had (sort-of) real tread.
