For those with OnStar sub, thoughts experiences.

Do you find it useful?
I've never had it before, they're offering 2 months free when locking in for a year @ $299.90 or 29.99 monthly for the Safety & Security plan.
On the face of it I'm not seeing a value considering the car will be stored during winter (4 months).
I guess it's kinda like insurance or a warranty, there's always a chance it comes in handy.

i randomly check with them for codes after getting my car taken care of at dealership. outside of that i use it as a easy discount for my car insurance due to the lowjack like feature.

I hated it. The lock/unlock feature was nice but not worth it IMO. I had two instances where I was in the middle of parallel barking and some on-star notification started screaming at me even though my music volume was low. That was it for me, instant deal breaker.

It will usually get you a discount on your insurance. I would see if it offsets the price and that's about it. Saves me more on my insurance than it cost me to have it. I think I save just over $300 and only use the lock unlock start up

Thanks guys for the replies, I never thought there would be an Ins. discount, my insurer State Farm has two programs, Drive Safe & Save or just use the Onstar program, with savings up to 30%.
The Drive safe monitors using a beacon and app, behaviors are monitored.
Drive Safe and Save from State Farm will base your discount on these behaviors:
Speeding
Hard Braking
Fast Cornering
Distracted Driving
Doesn’t seem like that would work out for me as for the speed portion,
(– The app shows you when you've exceeded the speed limit by 8 miles per hour or more. We think it's important for you to understand when this happens – and how it may impact other driving characteristics, like acceleration, braking, and cornering.)
The Onstar just monitors miles driven and less than 7,500 per year yields a discount, although not clear how much, will have to call my agent, the info above I got off their website.

I have OnStar and will keep it. The feature set is worth it to me if I need it.

I have State Farm. I did not add this car to my Drive Save & Save program (three other vehicles are on it). This car will trigger every driving metric in its normal behavior. It is made to corner fast, stop fast, and accelerate fast.

I drove 20k mi. in my first year.

So I converted the free trial sub for OnStar for a year @ $299 they added 2 months free onto that from a email offer i kept getting(so 14 months total) and added a free trial data plan 3 months, after that if i want to keep data $14.99 monthly.
The wiles '23 Equinox i did the same plan at a reduced sub for $239,
Also the rep mentioned to me i was entitled to a 3 month trial of Sirius/XM.

What i can best figure out is when we purchased the Equinox it was previously a Dealer demo with a 300 hundred or so miles, the original 3 months must have been already started up by the Dealer, when we took delivery the Sirius/XM was only active for i think about 2 weeks then went off, i never renewed.
So now we'll have the full 3 months for that service, so i'm satisfied with how it all turned out.
And signed up for State Farms Drive Safe & Save for the Equinox they limit the savings you might see if you drive over 8mph of the PSL the Camaro won't be a candidate for that program

If I may ask, what is it that kept you guys with this program at $300 every year?

Back when I had the app, it was a complete nuisance. Bugs everywhere in each new version, diagnostic data was several days old even after refreshing 2-3 times, a stupid fake recall took up half the landing page and could not be dismissed etc... Is it the emergency response that you're after? Or maybe GM's insurance discount?

For me it's new never had it before, if it becomes quirky or a nuisance i have the option to cancel or when renewal comes up and i find it wasn't any value i won't renew, for the wife she feels better driving with it in case of an emergency and i wasn't going to try to sway her one way or another, she's paying for hers so that's fine with me. LOL.
Also the State Farm program with up to a 30% discount helps out.

Totally useless to track your car if it gets stolen. The thieves know how to immediately disable it and OnStar won't connect.

I’ve just come off the free trial, I also had the previous version of the app years back.

It’s not evolved, more like a reskin. Realistically I only did remote start/lock/unlock maybe once. I still used the key fob more. Tracking current location was nice but many times didn’t update.

Personally not worth the extreme (in my opinion) cost. The only thing I’ll do is slap an air tag or similar device that works with Find My network. Sure it’ll beep at potential thieves but if my car ever is in that position then I have no doubt they’d have disabled OnStar by then

On the Camaro, I don't really use it. But for my teenage daughter and wife's cars, it's nice to have the remote features, diagnostic information for teenage kid that lives out of town, and vehicle locate feature. Once your Onstar is close to expiring I usually call and ask to speak to the loyalty department, I just renewed 2 vehicles on the essentials plan for 223.94 each per year. You just have to work on the phone a few minutes to get the deal better. Just like XM Radio, when you tell them to cancel at the 14.99 a month, suddenly they offer 5.99 a month. I guess it's all like buying a new car, everything is negotiable. I guess it's worth the piece if mind for me on my wife and daughters cars, not so much on the Camaro as it's not a daily driver.
