Hero Sequential taillights and DEAD BATTERIES

Put on Hero Taillights an my battery went dead in 3 weeks, recharged and it wouldn't hold charge. Dealer checked and said battery and alt. were fine.

Here is the kicker: Two of my Camaro owner friends have had the exact same problem after they installed the Hero Tail lights. Usually shows up as hard starting.

IS ANYONE HAVING BATTERY PROBLEMS AFTER THE INSTALL OF THESE HERO TAIL LIGHTS???

Sorry to hear. But that's the chance you take trying to saving money w/ cheap Chinese goods. I'd only consider the lights made by GM.

I'm interested in this also. I haven't had a dead battery yet but it has gotten low and had problems starting. Barely turning over fast enough to fire. Dealer says the battery and charging system is good. Here's what we're talking about.

Sounds similar to the battery drain on Technostalgia sequential lights for the 5th gen that others complained about for years. My set finally died after 6 years.

The reason for this is that unlike a the stock lamp where a bulb is simply on or off, sequential lamps like these intercept the turn signal and run it through a buttload of timer chips, capacitors, and other circuitry to create a sweeping effect. Even if the lamps are "made in America", you can bet they are cranking out the circuit boards in China and probably cutting corners by not using the optimal circuit design to avoid issues like parasitic drain where they suck power even when "off."

The only solution is to get a battery tender or just install a kill switch somewhere to cut power to the lamps when you park for extended periods. A kill switch is probably better in the long term because if there's parasitic drain, it means some of those components in the lamps are going to be under constant load, meaning more chances for something to go wrong over time. In my case, my lamps died when my car was connected to a battery tender when the car was in storage for a few months.
