If that’s the case, why wouldn’t edelbrock include a way to vent the pressure?

Not really sure. perhaps the seal failing is not a 100% certainty with the basic kits and canned tunes. At least not enough of a problem that they would include any sort or solution. For me the vented catch can is just extra peace of mind that when the intake vacuum is not available when under boost that any built up crankcase pressure won't risk pushing out my seal.

Crank seal replaced. Two hours labor. Hopefully this fixes it.
